1. If I wear a 3*+ Shade Armor and a Hat with a scarf? Will I have two scarves?
2. What's wrong with Shard Bombs?
3. If I'm cornered, can I shield bash my way out?
4. What is in the 1% of iron lockboxes?
5. Why is BTB more preferred than FF?
A bunch of questions
5) Are you sure it is preferred? I see a lot of people using either one.
I won't try to assess any aesthetic preference. De gustibus non est disputandum.
Anyway, their normal attacks are identical. The only difference is in their charge attacks.
FF's charge does tons of damage to a single target. But it can cause you to step far forward, possibly into spikes or other hazards. OTOH, BTB's charge can do even more damage if the target's big enough for the swipe and at least 6 of the 8 spikes - plus Snarby's bite - to hit it, and is much safer to use.
The other side is that FF can possibly be crafted with lucky UVs, while BTB can only get UVs from Punch.
1. Yes.
2. In addition to them having some of the worst damage output in the entire game when used optimally, they're hard to actually put to good use anyway, they're extremely bright making them have the same disadvantages as Nitronome in terms of the "blue screen of death", their knockback is actually much higher than most people probably think it is, making it easy for them to push enemies directly in to teammates, and it's not like you know where the explosions are going to be, shard bombs have a tendency to randomly derp out, and anything that could go wrong, will go wrong.
3. Only with full health, yeah.
4. Uh, useless cosmetics I'd assume.
5. It's not. But, from my personal perspective, I'd recommend that someone get a BTB over a FF because the charges for both are very rarely used anyway, so in those small times where you do charge, I personally find the AoE to be more useful. I actually personally like FF much more than BTB, but I'd still recommend that someone pick up BTB over FF.

"The other side is that FF can possibly be crafted with lucky UVs, while BTB can only get UVs from Punch."
Well actually, to be more specific, FF has 4 chances to obtain a UV, while BTB has only three. Additionally, FF can be spam crafted for UVs while BTB can not.

FF does tonnes of damage to enemies in a cluster (guess what fiends like to do!) or single targets, yes. It does cause you to step quickly far forward, possibly out of the way of wolver teeth, or a plethora of office equipment hurtling your way. If you have half a brain and a fragment of foresight, you won't use the charge attack when there is a spike or other hazard 4 steps infront of you. FF also delivers the first strike 25% faster than BTB after releasing the charge key.
BTB's charge attack has a massive arc, and to do the same damage as a hit-3 FF charge (less if the FF earns more hits because of clusters), you need to hit one enemy with your sword and land 6 spikes. Even if you're right thrush with an enemy, the one tile step back before the charge is unleashed causes 4 or 5 of the 8 spines to miss the target that was right infront of you anyway. What I want to know is what targets are "big enough" for 6 of the spikes to land at point blank, that are also weak to pierce? The only one is a Trojan, and guess what, that's a single target.
/whisper vanaduke is slightly weak to piercing
(and: battlepods while not weak to piercing, just neutral vs them, are also big targets ^^)
Yes, I was thinking of Vana, a trojan, or maybe a cluster of wolvers. And I realize that Vana is protected by those flaming balls and is thus a questionable target for either BTB or FF. The OP only asked why BTB might be preferred, not why FF might be preferred more often nor why you might be better off using something else entirely.
1) Yes
2) Their DPS is terrible relative to other weapons
3) Only if you have full shield health
4) Uselessnees (check wiki)
5) Looks better, instantaneous charge attack
