I've come SCARY close to getting this done (late Halloween pun intended). At about 1:30 AM Central (US) (Before the time switch) I converted my first .DAT and woke everyone up by going "YES!" a bit too loud.

Still no textures in the build, however (Click to see why)

I DID find a snippet of code that I THINK converts the textures into UV textures, and if that's the case textures should be done within the week. If that's NOT the case, then you can go ahead and assume it's postponed for another Half-Life-3-o-cycle.

reverse engineering the game is prohibited by the eula, I suggest you don't post on the forums about that.

You're forgetting something! Specifically, two words:

"Open" and "Source" - The code that I am using to read their models is their own and open source (See this), and well, Three Rings doesn't own the XML format.

So to read .DAT, I use their own code which is 100% allowed
And to read .XML, I use what I'm allowed to use in Java.

the code you are using to read is open source, but the code you are reading is not. either way, you are tampering with code which isn't open source. if it was, I think we could help OOO quite a bit more.

He's not distributing any files proprietary files, only his project. Of course the models are intended for the SK project but evidently OOO have had no issues with people having fun with their files in the past given the history of this project and Spiral Spy so there's nothing to worry about here.
