Looks like Plasmatech Pride still exists after all...

I heard it from a friend of mine who logged in and tried making his own guild just for the purposes of finding out if that name was still in use. Yep, it's still being used and is more than likely in a permanent state of limbo. This is rather...disheartening for me. Can't say I'm surprised at my old guild's fate.

many

I think that I've never heard of Plasmatech Pride. There are many defunct guilds. The fundamental problem is that (almost) every player wants to be in charge. So too many tiny guilds get made (even after the guild hall update, which incentivized big guilds somewhat).

Yep. Being a guild founder and leader is seen as some sort of prestigious achievement, even though in reality we can't all feasibly be leaders when no one wants to be that follower. To make matters worse, being a successful guild leader is a pretty huge commitment, since you really can't count on guild members to support your cause of becoming the best.. and you have to compete with wealthy (or even astroturfed) guilds with hundreds of applicants and much bigger social benefits for their members.

Meh, I just wanted my name.

I don't blame you for not having heard of Plasmatech Pride. Although we did become a slightly popular guild a little after the time I formed it, mostly because our #2 spot on the guild Blast Network leaderboards as I might have mentioned on another forum post, but also because hey, we were friendly as all hell. So we grew, and I guess I was the top guild recruiter according to my peers, though if you ask me, I wouldn't think I'd have the charisma for it. Anyways, we had around 90-something members by the time the guild hall update came. Had a decent sized guild hall, always open to the public, Auction room and a few other stuff, y'know, the works.

Then my computer died for the second time. When it got fixed again a year later, I found out that my guild was in default, the other leaders had left, and no one had been on for months. Sad to say, but I think it was my leadership alone that held the group together, as the Message of the Day had said something about never forgetting me. Honored? Yes. Did I deserve all that praise? No, most of it should have gone to the other guild leaders, whom I've never seen again. Could've siphoned resources from the guild for all I know.

So I had the stupid and ambitious goal of reviving my guild. Did it, and guild hall upkeep fees were halved, so things were a lot easier. But it just wasn't the same. The game was still pretty active, at least much more than it is now, and PtP had close to 150 guildmates, but not only have we never reclaimed our former glory, but inactivity and Officer disputes among other things rotted it from the inside out. I left my precious guild to see if they could handle things without me. Lo and behold and very unsurprisingly, they couldn't. Dunno how I was the linchpin to my guild's (now-declining) success again, but hey. At this point it didn't matter because my computer broke, once and for all, a third time.

I don't know why I'm telling this story, and I sure as hell condensed it, but I guess now that I know the guild's just a zombie now, I guess I finally got a little closure. As soon as I get a decent computer (Wii U internet browser right now) I might try and create another guild, but just for the only purpose of having its name under mine. Heheh, no recruiting this time. No, I've learned my lesson. This time, Plasmatech Died for good.
