That was just a cover up on Herex's part, he set the lab on fire with his assassins while most of his former colleagues and researchers are trapped in there, he knew we, the spiral knights will no doubt check it out once when things got out of hand, and we carelessly slaughtered the only people on cradle that knows Herex's ultimate plan. Quicksilvers can indeed kill each other as well as other enemies. Same goes for Lumbers.

No, Lumbers can't.
Lumbers can only stun, Quicksilvers can kill other enemies though.

...and rocket pups and trojans and blast cubes and bombies; oil/poison oil + howlitzer heads can status other monsters; menders/silkwings can kill poisoned enemies (and grems can suicide when trying to use hp caps while poisoned).
So there's plenty of occasions for friendly fire.
Ya know. General AI of Enemies.
Wheel Launchers are full of infinite wheels and accidental killing.
I think Quicksilver's can kill each other.
Those last two facts were probably pointless.
