Hi for those who remember me, and hi for the newcomers who don't.

I was wondering who still plays this costume game ? How is the costumes going to this day.
Pretty much nothing changed the last day I played, just new cosmetics. I wonder what keeps the vets still play this game.
Towards GM's forum mods how long are you going this direction, seems like the game needs a new direction off "updates" also pretty suprised game hasn't died off.

I just stick my nose in every few months, buy my trinket/wep slots again, and continue to play until they expire. Ideally I wait for an interesting event to jump back in.

same as always

The game is the same as always. Whatever you found fun in it originally, you could still find fun.

Of course, it would be nice to have new content, because playing the same thing over and over again gets dull, unless you have some other agenda (data collection, trying weird weapon combinations, helping newbies, etc.).

We get a lot of threads about how there is no new content except for cosmetics. You're not the only genius to have figured it out.

See "Crazy Challenge Runs"

One thing you can do to keep the game fun is to try new, interesting things or challenges, such as the things shown in that thread.

That might be "what keeps the vets keep playing this game". Or maybe not. I don't know.

Well.

We take breaks or still straight up enjoy the game. I don't spend every waking moment of my life playing Spiral Knights, and even after 4.2k hours in the game I'm still having fun with it.

Arcade keeps the game fresh enough in terms of levels, and I'm not fretting over every small thing in the game. When an update comes out I play it, have fun with it, and then decide if I want to run it several times myself again or if I want to space it out. Breaking in the Recruits was a mission I really liked, and Dreams and Nightmares has been a wonderful addition to the game.

So while many people need a constant barrage of "new" to keep them interested, a lot of people such as myself are entertained by what the game is rather than what it isn't.

I still play too :D

I mostly just like to go check up on how everyone is doing in game, going on a few runs with them. I also spend a lot of time farming for radiant fire crystals, unfortunately.

algorithms are the solutions to any problem.

hi. I'm still here.
I pop up in the game every once in a while, but I'm pretty much only a forum lurker now.

A lot of free time and a tendency to not be bothered by monotony.

I only really did pick up the game late 2013 I want to say? Think it was the second or third black kat event ever that I participated in and was all "well here I am back in the game now".

But I just play the game a lot. Few years of playing the game a fair bit accumulates hours like crazy.

Whew, Bopp's getting sassy. You know the game is cancer when the most loyal forumer starts to get annoyed enough at the lack of developer care to spit fire at other players.

@OP tbh, idk anyone who pays the costume aspect anymore. Market is too dead. The remaining draw is lockdown, which is also slowly dying because OOO decided AT was a brilliant idea. Little did they know that you really don't need computer assisted aim to hit a set of pixels on a 2D surface in a game.

Game is not dead, but it's stagnated.

No, I'm not annoyed at the "lack of developer care". Let me explain it like this...

Suppose that there's a rock band (or pop diva, or MC, or whatever) whose music you really love. You've memorized all of their albums. You've seen them live many times. You've made friends at shows and through chatting about the band online.

The years pass, and the band releases new songs less and less frequently. They still tour constantly, but you've seen their show so many times that it's become boring. All that they really change is the merch (T-shirts, posters, etc.). You've e-mailed them, begging them to release new music, but they are silent.

So what do you do?

  1. Conclude that the band just isn't as creative as they used to be. If they do release new music someday, then you'll check it out. But meanwhile quietly move on to some other band.
  2. Declare publicly that you are no longer a fan of the band. Attack them in forums, declaring that they are incompetent and money-grubbing. Tell their current fans that they are idiots for liking the band.

For me, Three Rings is just like this band, and Spiral Knights is their music. Every friend of mine who has stopped playing the game did so by option 1. But for some reason that I cannot understand, there are players who go with option 2.

Love can become hate and hope can become despair ( and vice versa ofc), that is the beauty/ugliness of humanity.

I don't know how long I will be around SK, but I will remain, like I always have been, a stranger lurking in the background. I wonder why you and Fangel try to stay neutral, saying that you want to move on yet you would appreciate new content if it ever come out. Why not take a side? No man can be truly neutral, he must stand for something, whether it is religion, science, his family or just himself.

Regarding AT I am same as always, if it doesn't affect the PvE experience, the PvP side of SK should simply stop complain about it and recognize AT as a tool that you can choose to switch on/off, nothing more.

Regarding cosmetics, again, I will always shout on the top of my lungs for OOO to finally get their act together and improve the game, there is no reason or excuse that SK is in its current state right now. AND INB4 you say that I am wrong, there are plenty of things that OOO could change and most of them will be within their power, turning AT on or off for example in LD, re-balancing some weapons (say, can I have my shard bombs back? The gunners are OP, so why can't we?), fix the broken drop rate and give daily rewards to retain players (I am serious, I have seen MMOs OLDER AND LESS successful than SK eventually start giving players login rewards as they go through their life cycle, some with even less devs than OOO).

Three Rings is our ally, not our enemy

I don't take a side because this is not a battle. Three Rings wants to make a living providing us with an enjoyable game. We want an enjoyable game, and many of us are willing to pay for it. We are all on the same side. Insofar as I feel any emotion about the state of the game, it's a bittersweet yearning, rather than anger.

Bopp said it

We aren't fighting because this is not a fight. Passion for something is great, but passion and hate are different sides of the same emotion. Being far in the left field makes you angry at the right, and being on the right field makes you angry at the left. You both are on the coin, just utilizing its energy in different ways.

Now the thing is we do love Spiral Knights, and we both have various aspects of investment in the game - Bopp through helping new players, showing off their sword guide, giving data points, etc. Myself, I like to contribute through suggestions, occasionally art, and assisting players through the game if they ask for help. My upbeat and cheery personality also draws others in because it is pretty fun to be around someone who will skip from point A to B and cheer them on than it is to be around someone who mucks behind and grumbles about how much they hate the game, or aspects of it.

I'm just naturally happy so a few bad design choices and Debbie downers aren't gonna make that big of an impact on me.

I've been spending a lot of time studying the humans lately, and have a theory of sorts-

Humans are usually tied to individual sentiments, like bands, games, pieces of art, ideas, cultures, ideals, morals and any other things of that nature which can be classified as romance. If the romance composing the human dies out, then that human becomes culturally irrelevant and disconnected from the other humans around them, falling into a depressive state.

During this weakened state, the human is left vulnerable and susceptible to attack- other newer humans who have retained their romance siphon their funds away from them, teasing the things that once composed their reality as nostalgia. Eventually the human has no more to give, cannot recreate romantic ideals that fit the current society and so is indirectly killed by the various systems their society has placed about them- or at best kept away from the newer generations.

So it would make a great deal of sense for humans to want to keep that band around a while longer, so as to live longer and attempt to overcome their own mortality. Of course, this is also the first stage of their undoing, and so is a healthy part of the human's life cycle.

Your post is hard to interpret. Depending on how I read it, it could be describing either "side" in this "debate".
