Let players test items before they invest.

So to begin with, a lot of players have expressed interest in sharing items, renting them from others, borrowing bound gear, things of that sort and I've been reading them for a few years now and have something to say on the issue-

In Spiral Knights, gear is a HUGE investment and knowing what you're getting into without having to buy it would really help out.

So here's what I'm proposing-

1. Basil will offer a trial version of the recipes that he sells, free of charge.

2. The trial weapon/armor expires after a certain amount of time, say, 1 day.

3. The weapon/armor comes fully heated and cannot have unique variants. It comes marked with 'trial'.

4. Weapons and armor pieces can only be tried once, and only one may be tried at a time.

ooh

I actually really like this one. Similar to TF2.
Oh, but restrict the weapon trials to the appropriate rank and don't let them be used in anything but the training hall, Arcade, and maybe previously completed missions.

A suggestion from Splatoon.

Nintendo's Splatoon has already cover this issue with a very simple method. Click a button, equips the weapon and loads into a training hall. You are free to experiment with the weapon for however long you want. Press the same button to exit the training hall and back into the shop.

How to do same thing in spiral knights-solution-o-matic (TM)

ALREADY EXISTS
When at Basil, you can select a recipe and press preview to see your knight hold the weapon/equiped the amor.

SUGGESTION
When you hit preview, it equips the item. You can run around and shoot in the area around Basil (mission lobbies, Depth 23 crossroads, etc). The preview ends when you leave the area (take a lift down, leave the arcade, exit the game).

this works

we really should be able to test items without sinking rarities to get them

@everyone who says "only in a training hall"
the point of testing weapons here is to see how they fare against enemies, restricting them to a training hall defeats the purpose

no, shufflebots move, and theyre useless

what they need are samples of actual enemies so you can test how a weapon works in a realistic, level mimicking environment

The goal is to make players want the items that fit their play style and in general. If you clear some really hard level with the trial weapon for the first time or farm 100 k cr with your rented blitz needle it'll probably pique your interest enough to at least consider it.

Ehh I dunno

I mean, spiral knights is a toy collection agency, right?

It's not too hard to get a new item, one at a time.

idk i havent played in half a year.

Testing stuff

'you may like the Blitz Needle after farming 100k crowns with it'.... serious?

The Point of testing is to see its mechanic and not to actually farm. If you want to be able to do an actual Mission with it, then no one in the Group should be able to gain anything. No crowns, no heat, no Boss Tokens, no materials. Why? Because otherwise it is too easy to abuse this. But even this is a Thing that I can't recommend because of trolling potentially.

->
But I would totally agree with a 'first look' in the area where the recipe can be obtained. This means Basil stages and *exspecially* hall of heros.

On this way, a new Player can see how the autogun roots himself down before actually buying it. You can run around, you can shoot, you can Charge. Maybe add some Training Bags into the Hall of Heros, too, to get a first damage Impression.

Of course you can not pass the hall of Heros Mission with Trial preview gear.
And it is also obvious that you can not Keep the gear after you logout, or leave the area.
And also obvious, that you can not create a new loadout if you have any preview items epquipped.

Additional Suggestion:
I also would welcome something like Kxdx mentioned: A Special Arsenal Station in the guild Training hall that Displays every item without UVs which you can use as as preview item as Long as you stay inside the Training hall.

You're forgetting that you can only test it one time as a trial weapon, and that you have to find it at Basil and be of the rank to equip it. Not the hall of heroes, or the supply depot, but Basil who is random and hates you and obsessed with gunner update armor. I don't see the 100K cr killing spree with blitz needle to be a problem when the player would have had to find the recipe, and would have to provide any and all weapons (as well as skill) to go with their blitz needle.

But failing this, yes, having some kind of try-it-in-guild-training option would be pretty amazing as well.

@ Six-From-Syrup

How dare you! I love Basil and he loves you too! He just can't express it because he's a dialogue-less NPC, and don't you be hating on my Guerrilla Plated Firefly Pathfinder Armor, I love that stuff....

And yes very good idea +1
