No name for it right now.

Found in Candlestick Keep treasure boxes.

4*.

Resists Elemental, Shadow, Curse, Fire, and Poison.

Gives Dmg. Bonus vs. Undead: High.

On shield bash, generates a temporary light field around the location you traveled which repels undead (and destroys Grimalkins) for 1 second.

Looks like the base of an Owlite Ward Candle. Has a small yellow flame on it. Generates a small amount of yellow light around it (only for visuals, unlike the shield bash light). A picture of an Owlite (sort of like the 2* Owlite shield) is scratched into the front. Flame and glow aren't shown when the shield is broken (no shield health).

I'm considering making this a Basil recipe instead, and adding a 5* version...

It's amazingly OP against Candlestick Keeps (and yes I know that that's the point), so therefore I think that it should be a (like the chance of getting a normal weapon/ armor in the clockworks) --> rare/ultra rare <-- (like all other drop only weapons and armor) base drop of a 3-4* item with a 4-5* Basil recipe, and an increased drop rate in candlestick keep/ other undead levels

Also name ideas: Sacred Ward (3*) Blessed Ward (4*) Consecrated Ward (5*)

EDIT: I have another parting Idea, a bomb! (yay Boom Boom!) this bomb (name= Holy Hand Grenade, think of an Argent Peacemaker bomb) not only has dmg bonus versus undead medium/high (elemental dmg as well) similar to the AP, but can damage Grimalkins and Phantoms in Ghost mode and extend their respawn time. This will be a very rare drop from boxes in Graveyards/Vana/Candlestick Keeps.

Very nice idea +2

Holy Handgrenade, eh?

@Professor-Ego:

Also, that grenade should not be able to deal damage to hidden phantoms or exceed their down time. But what I could imagine would be: If this grenade hits a Phantom or a grimalkin, then those get instantly triggered their invisibility. In Exchange, the General weapon Needs to be less, but after all we really could Need more elemental bombs in this game.

@Vana:
At first look, the Shield Looks pretty strong because it would has 3 Status resistances at once - a Thing that no other shield offer. I also do not understand, what the purpose of a dual defense with elemental is supposed to be for because These shadowlings deal shadow and normal damage.

However, I would like to see another non-normal mixed shield inside the game. I also like to see a curse-resistent shield inside the game. But that shield should have only 2 Status resistances and therefore it should be poision and curse since those stati have both a pretty unhealthy effect while not limitating movement at the same time or dealing direct damage.

@ProfessorEgo

I'm thinking that the 5* would be a blue candle base. Possibly with wings on the Owlite image, like the Grey Owlite Ward.

But what would the 3* be? Inactive yellow candle, maybe?

...So, are you suggesting that a 3* version drops in treasure boxes, and the 4*-5* versions can be found from Basil?

I think that it shouldn't be too rare (like Darkfang rarity. needs to be much more common than that) if it can be upgraded with recipes. Generally, it seems either too rare, or not rare enough, no matter what rarity I put it on in treasure boxes. So, I think that it should either: 1. Be available in some other way - Like the 3* version being a basil recipe, being available from vendors, etc. 2. Be only available from Candlestick Keep, but be more common than any other equipment drop there.

Eh

Just have it be a Basil-only branch off of the owlite shield line. It's literally just a shield for the divine mantle/veil, so it would be alright to see in the game.

I would say to give it fiend damage of low/medium instead of undead however, and heck, potentially remove the whole candle effect. I know that's half the point of the shield, but Candlestick Keeps are designed around the candles. No other level can you trivialize a threat that big, especially when it's the entire level's gimmick. Banishing phantoms from graveyards or eliminating mixed monster families in compounds would be on similar levels of imbalance.

I mean you can dash, shield bash, and hammer dash through grimalkins anyways to despawn them, so you already can deal with them without a candle...

True I guess

@fangel

the idea was that the shield killed Grimalkins in an aura a little smaller than hammer dash range, which means you don't even have to waste a charge/dash/shield bash killing one Grimalkin. and here's a little fix to help how OP this shield is. Instead of killing Grimalkins how about this shield can actually block Grimalkin attacks (normal shields cannot do this), although it would have low durability (3-4*?)

Still nah

The shield is a good shield on its own merit, not needing an ability that helps with a single enemy in a single stage that already has several ways to deal with them. Having a mobile light takes out the sort of "panic" that the level creates.

As I said, we don't have any gear that can straight up make phantoms stop spawning in graveyards, darkfang menders from reviving other gremlins, or Pit Bosses from making overtimers. All of these mechanics are built into the AI, and are what make the levels/enemies difficult. Removing that aspect makes the whole thing a lot less... Well, unique.

Imagine if you had a shield that insta-killed the Apocrean harvester. That would make Shroud of the Apocrea far less of a challenge, and the level is really simple if you didn't have the harvester chasing you. Similar game mechanics in candlestick keeps.
