OOO pls, why u make CE so expensive ;(

I come back to SK after being gone since November 1st, and I see CE has gone up from 8800 to 10kcr....
Is the company not making enough money anymore that they have to hold the energy market hostage with high prices? ;(
It's taking too long to craft with these high prices, so I'll just quit again, since farming is taking too long for me now.

From what I'm being told, the employees intentionally drove it up all month with snipes and promos for energy in supply depo. THEN they did a depo sale, all while it was over 9k. So they did it intentionally. If OOO was honest in lowering it, they would have done another AH sale instead of a depo sale, and they would have discounted energy packages for real money. Clearly there's no energy in the game anymore. So it's either let the game suffer and let people like me quit, or discount your prices and re-encourage cr spending.
There was more than enough time to be able to determine the prices were too high before initiating the depo sale, so they did it with full knowledge that it'd screw up the prices.

Me thinks you need to understand economics.
OOO doesn't have much direct control over the energy price. General rule of thumb, the energy price will be 100 E per FSC run. However the price is entirely player driven.
Also, as of a few seconds ago, you can use the market tab to buy E at like 9.4k.
EDIT**
Well this is what happens when I try to wait for SK to update before finalizing my post...
Regardless, I think whoever you've been talking too is feeling a bit negative. They could have been trying to be some evil manipulative corporation trying to milk money. Or they could have been using the Cyber Monday flash sales to allow people to buy things they've always wanted to buy but missed the promo for. Or maybe they just wanted to celebrate Cyber Monday like absolutely every business in the US did.

You obviously don't know how the market works.
It's simple.
The more Energy all players in SK have, the higher the cost of the Energy. A ton of Energy has been released out into the public, and the reason why it rose during the flash sales was because a lot of players bought Energy (which increases the price).
When people sell Energy (or return it to the depot), the price reduces.

9.4kcr is an extortionate price. You must be used to the employees slowly raising it on you every month or two.
Also I do understand economics, energy gets consumed and created. There's not enough energy being created, so prices are going up. Three Rings employees are clearly seeing the rising prices and pushing them up further with depo sales. Players can't fake the prices up for more than a day or two, I've seen it tried. If the employees were honest about not trying to extort players into pushing into being p2w they would have altered the real money prices of buying energy and/or given us crown sinks and NOT energy sinks in the last month.
@Itsmeandersonlol I think you're trolling with the reversed logic there.

Cyber Monday has been a thing Three Rings has done in a certain way for years - selling rare items for energy on the supply depot. Just because energy prices - which are player driven - are high has no affect on seasonal events that have a specific way to go about them, such as Cyber Monday. Give a bit of time for the prices to re-settle. We were sitting on around 9k crowns for 100 energy prior anyways, so it'll still be a bit high.

Like I said, they could have hosted cyber monday on auction house. They can also discount energy packages if the in game economy has been starving that badly for energy. I know they won't because they want f2p to turn to p2w by rage quitting farming. That's why I'll be quitting. My friends are saying the same thing.
I have a feeling some employee is laughing his/her butt off at you guys defending them.
kthx for the farming nerf, guess I'll play another game then

For the past several years we've had Depot sales on Cyber Monday. What makes you think Three Rings would change that pattern? A personal belief that energy prices are too high? Three Rings can't read the mind of individual players.
This is like saying "let's swap dark harvest and winterfest because i won't be around for winterfest and i want to get a humbug hat!". No, winterfest is in late December, dark harvest is in late October. Has been since they were introduced.

Players set the prices on the energy market. But Fohweighn-Forums has a point, that Three Rings interferes with that market frequently. When they sell special items for energy, the consequent rise in energy prices is pretty predictable.
Perhaps they are hoping that the rising prices will incentivize more players to buy energy. Or maybe they just went ahead with their usual Cyber Monday plans, not paying much attention to the prices, as Fangel speculates.
It always amuses me to see what price counts as "extortionate" in any given month. I've seen prices of 6,500 called that, because they were higher than the 5,000 people were used to. But if we had prices of 6,500 today, you would probably call them very generous. The only conclusion I've ever been able to draw is: No matter what the price is, buyers want it lower.
Well, I hope you don't write off this wonderful game entirely, just because of a small, probably temporary nerf to your farming efficiency. Cheers.

@Fohweign: trolling? Reverse logic? Please elaborate / read my post carefully.

Actually I think he's right with "reversed logic" - Actually, the price should be higher when there's less energy and lower when there's more, not the other way around.

@Vanaduke-Destroyer: Correct - the price should be higher when the depot runs lower on Energy, and if Spiral Knights players have more Energy. As more and more players purchase Energy, the cost increases and the amount the depot has lessens. That was what I implied in my post.

Oh, I think I understand what you're saying here.
Remember about IRL money, Depot isn't the only way to get energy.
Here's how I understand this:
Depot sales = More people need energy = People buy energy with IRL money = More energy in existence = People don't need energy as much, as some already have the amount they need from purchasing = Price decreases.

Look at this way.
OOO creates flash sale.
People want those things, so they need more CE.
They buy more CE, using Cr.
CE price rises.
Flash sale ends.
CE price lowers again.
CE price purely depended on how many people were buying them, OOO has no control over it (or at least we think that is the way), people come and go and the price fluctuate. This kind of pricing is quite common, and don't forget, there is a flash sale going on, so CE is in high demand.
