To begin with, "the devs" which are Sega Networks LLC and includes what used to be Three Rings, are a group of "51-200" employees that specialize in phone games first and then Java, the Java portion including Spiral Knights.

When Nick walked out, they would have likely tried to function without him, but lacking someone to go between and talk to players appeared to fall apart somewhat. On top of this, a good many employees (namely software engineers) appear to have left the team. This prompted Sega Networks LLC to find a new Nick, or more precisely, "Executive Producer".

Recently, Nick's old position has been filled-

...which likely has something to do with this company being inducted into Sega Networks LLC.

I would expect them to continue focus on phone games and not developing Spiral Knights as their primary endeavor, but I will say that this sort of change does present the possibility of work taking place on the game; they still do list "java" as a requirement on their jobs page, so it doesn't seem so far fetch'd for development to have simply been staganant due to lack of employees. If anything, now would be the time to remain strong and prove that the game is worth putting effort into by supporting the game in whatever way you can.

Truth.

If OOO slapped a 20-60 dollar price tag on this game, and then made weekly and monthly updates, I will be the happiest person alive. I would purchase the game immediately, just saying.

I do understand the devs need to put food on the table, though.

(Still friggin awesome everybody is teaming up.)

Java on Android?

Isn't a lot of Android development done in Java? So isn't a lot of "mobile" development done in Java?

So hiring a Java developer does not mean hiring a Spiral Knights developer. They could be hiring for anything.

I don't develop for Android, so correct me if I'm wrong.

I thought of that and you're certainly correct. They do mention-

"Our expertise is in MMO development and mobile games."

But there is definitely no mention of "we plan to hire someone to work on Spiral Knights".

@Bopp: You're correct, Java is the language used for native Android development.

algorithms are the solutions to any problem.

more precisely, android is a java platform built on a linux system. this means: android uses java code.
also yes, your android phone has linux on it.

"Our expertise is in MMO development and mobile games."

Spiral Knights is an MMO, so there's still a good chance for future development.

What does that mean for

What does that mean for Spiral Knights?
