So this is a bit out there and could possibly greatly influence the game's future.

Once a year during the Birdsong Trading Company giveaway the winners will all be give a "scratch off ticket" each time they win.
Once the event is over one of the players will have their ticket turn gold.

The player who has the golden ticket is given the ability to ask the Dev team to create one new item for the game.

Naturally this will have a couple of requirements.

No copyrighted stuff
Nothing offensive
Must use mechanics already in the game
Will be a Basil only recipe that branches off of an existing line.
Armors and Helms will be done together (so possibility of 2 new items but they would be a set)
The item will be balanced by OOO
anything else OOO wants to add

_______________

Once the item is finished it will be added to the game and the player with the gold ticket will receive the new item already fully heated along with a three UV ticket.

If the winner does not claim their prize in time then the gold ticket will expire and someone else's ticket will turn gold. The regular tickets expire after 150 days so you can't save them for next year but it does offer multiple resets if the gold ticket keeps getting passed around.

Bit too much leeway for winners here

We already have a place to ask the devs for stuff, and it's right here as it's always been. Plus the fact that the winner could be literally anyone, even a proto with no experience whatsoever with the game. Wouldn't turn out very well.
Let the devs decide what to put in instead of trying to force content updates.

So basically they winners are allowed to post in the suggestions forums but force the devs to pay significantly more attention, as well as not allowing community feedback.

The ticket could be limited to only players over vanguard rank. This would be a once a year deal in which a lucky player gets to take part in content development. Seriously when was the last time a GM or Dev contributed or weighed in on something in the suggestion forums? This isn't a way to force updates this would be a drop of water in an ocean of content. One or two items added every year that are available to all the players (not just those who bought prizeboxes) is hardly something to be worried about.

The devs would still hold the right to change or modify any idea given by the winner, regardless something new shows up in the game to fight with and it will be inspired by this player.

As I mentioned there would be limits to ideas to keep it simple and the item would have to be tested for balance. That means that the item might take months to actually be released.

But

What if there isn't going to be an update that year?

It's pretty explicitly stated that suggestions forums are combed through, but they don't want to curb its ideas, thus do not post.

Having dev input on our suggestions would be wonderful, but as it stands this method is not a good way to go about getting an idea out there. A lot of people play the game for fun and do not think of anything to be added. Some people complain about not having what they want, but when asked, can't give you what they want. Some people play the game but would hold their ticket "ransom" until they got an unrelated thing into the game, and then would complain profusely when Three Rings chooses a new "golden ticket".

We have creative minds volunteering ideas on the suggestions forums as is. No need to throw a ticket out there and hope it lands with the right person.

To add to what Fangel said, they're making phone games now and don't appear to be working on Spiral Knights at all for the most part. For the most part here meaning that they probably do touch it on occasion.
