How do I go about not frying my GPU in ready room without enabling Vsync?

I like playing without Vsync, makes the game feel more responsive which kicks butt in Lockdown. Only problem is, this game is bonkers and I can go as high as 400 FPS in ready room which puts me at almost 90° C and has made me crash due to GPU overload at times.

Running on a GTX 660 Ti so I can fiddle with the Nvidia control panel, but I can't really find any solution there. There's adaptive Vsync (vsync turns off when running below refresh rate) but that doesn't really help me.

What I'd like is something like a 200 fps cap.

Woah! 90° C... Let me cook egg with it :D

Try leave the case open while playing
Also add more cooling fan, that will solve the problem too!

Those are both bad solutions, they don't actually solve the problem. I opened the GPU up and cleaned it yesterday and reduced my temps with about 20°. Today I'm gonna apply new thermal paste. Neither truly solves my ready room issues. In fact, I raised my FPS by 200 with the cleaning.

I find it amusing how you talk about 200fps... which is past what our eyes can register (most people it's around 75Hz) and what most monitors can actually display (most around 60Hz).
Speaking of limiting fps's for java games... I found this relic in 30 seconds worth of searching.

Looks like you'll get fps limits when they also complete the following:
enable steam login from linux
fix the steam overlay

Yeah, I know how FPS works. I

Yeah, I know how FPS works. I registered up to 400 in ready room without vsync before cleaning, 600 after. I would totally get a 144hz monitor if I could run the game on that consistently but I usually peak between 90 and 120 depending on the map.

As for the topic I found that too. Quite disappointing. I also found some info about some utility for Nvidia cards that can limit your FPS but it seemed like it was a third party driver so I'll just pass on that.

Edit: received reply to a mail

Greetings,
I'm sorry to hear that you're running into this issue, but I'm afraid this is
not something our support or a developer will be able to assist with.
Unfortunately that's not a form of technical service we can provide.
Best wishes,
- Thalia

Game runs as fast as possible always. It uses vsync to block the thread. Basically to adjust the fps you're gonna need to enable vsync AND edit your driver so it sends out a vsync event at 200 fps. Basically make sk think the display is running at 200 fps and have the driver manage the buffering matchup to the true refresh rate. This part though is undefined territory.
