Why was the original question edited out of the OP? Seems silly, if the combination of question and answer could have helped someone else down the road...

he might've felt pretty embarrassed when he found that out so hes trying to cover his tracks
The shortcut key to unlock the UI is Q by default. When you lock it there should be a little tip that tells you what key to press to unlock it.
