Let me tell you guys a Winterfest story. It's kind of sad.

During last month's Winterfest, I returned from a Christmas vacation, and started doing what any other player was doing.

Grinding tokens.

I was aiming for the Winterfest box that costed 3,500 Frozen Winter Wishlists. But, I thought I had more time than I actually did. The tokens expired at midnight of January 3rd. BUT, I thought the almost unthinkable.

I thought midnight happened at the end of a day.

So here I was, logging in on January 3rd, 2016, thinking I could grind 300 more tokens and get that box, but I realized something. Winterfest was GONE, when poor little me thought there was still another day. About 3,100 Frozen Winter Wishlists...

....All gone.....

You could just imagined how devastated I was, but fortunately, without any raging. Walking around Haven with a hint of sorrow, a teaspoon of disappointment and sadness in me. :(

That just about wraps up the story.

I thought Midnight was at 12:00 PM.

Edit for Voh:
I thought Noon was at 12:00 AM.

Mhm, Okay.

I personally didn't grind for the Frozen tokens (too busy on Mt. Krampus), so I can't relate to your story. But back in the day (like 2011-13), whenever OOO screwed up like this in a way they couldn't reverse, they'd give compensation to all players for their mistake. This was basically Elevator Passes (heh, remember those?), UV tickets, and Trinket/Weapon slots. Extending Winterfest by one week more was not not enough compensation for the 3+ weeks people have been grinding for tokens, and if you think about it, it isn't compensation at all for the work you've put in to get them.

Agreed, Gianor. >_>

My idea of "compensation" would be for them to get rid of the "multiple" Winter Wish tokens and bring back the original one, so that people don't have to waste time attempting to get four times as many tokens as they used to have to obtain. No other event for this game expects you to endure that much needless farming & grinding (outside of LD/BN, at least) just for one item, and the fact that the tokens expire after all of that hard work (particularly if you don't have enough to get anything you want that won't ALSO expire after a set amount of time) is an even bigger slap in the face than them splitting the tokens into three different kinds because people who chose to go after Winterfest rewards in the past were "too efficient".

Mhm, Okay.

What I find stupid is that Apocrean Sigil and Ancient Page tokens don't expire, yet the hallow event's Candy tokens and the Wish List tokens do disappear. I personally don't see the harm in making these tokens permanent, as it would help avoid these types of occurrences from happening.

Don't forget the Cake tokens from the Anniversary events. :P

well...

What I find stupid is that Apocrean Sigil and Ancient Page tokens don't expire, yet the hallow event's Candy tokens and the Wish List tokens do disappear.

I mean, these events come once a year, and their rewards aren't really too much to get all fussy about. Dark Harvest is pretty easy to farm, and the wishlists are too, despite the new blue token effectively doubling time it takes to get a single item.

Meanwhile other rotating events can come multiple times a year, and with actual game-changing items involved, having progress you made from last event carry over is great.

Timed events, especially timed rewards, is good for making players log on and play the game. I will say, however, that allowing us to hold onto our tokens and trade them in for a week or so after the event ends would prevent any sort of issues of this sort from happening in the first place.

Mhm, Okay.

That's fine and all, but if you're going to stick a prize out there that requires about 10 hours of grinding to achieve (or more), it shouldn't be subject to this treatment. Besides, even then, the devs could screw up on the expiration time again when they try to lengthen their duration. It just seems like such a waste to have hours of grinding disappear when they could do something as simple as make those tokens like others, and not expire.
