According to the Wiki the last March of The Tortodrones event was in March, not January. Anyway i kinda want Shroud of The Apocrea first, the Obsidian weapons seem more attractive than the Tortodrone handguns and shields.

I'd rather have Black Kats, the overreliance on RNG is why I don't have all the stuff from that yet.
Although Tortodones are fairly profitable so that would be ok too.

the cycling events that arent date locked have a specific order, tortodrones are next
asking for shroud of the apocrea or kats would disrupt the order
side note: people find obsidian more appealing because they wont bother to learn how to use tortodrone items, so they just give them a bad reputation out of laziness

I might be thinking apocrea, as that came late January last year. Regardless, the event started in February, and it also showed up in July, so it's not strictly a month pun.
Also the tortoshields are pretty rad, especially the piercing one due to lack of variety with piercing shields. Guns are alright, just don't fit into my personal playstyle all that great.
But the last event we had was apocrea, so it won't be coming up until the other two events cycle again.

its kats, apocrea, tortodrones, repeat if I remember correctly, usually theyre restricted to not exist at the same times as datelocked events like the anniversary and winterfest, etc, the only exception I remember is the first apocrea being during the dark harvest a few years ago

Tortoshield...
If memory serves me correctly, the pierce Tortoshield is the only 5* Piercing shield in the game to give Shock Resistance by default. Would be nice to pick one up. Would also be a nice match with the Piercing Tortogun that I have.

Your memory is right. Savage Tortoshield is the only piercing shield other than the royal jelly shield that provides normal defense and status resist, and is the only shock resistant pierce shield. However, crest of almire is the only shock resistance shadow shield and grey owlite is the only shock resistant elemental shield, so that's not exactly a "new" theme.
... Geez, I just checked the wiki on that claim because it seems rather bogus, but it's true - there are only three 5* shock resistant shields. There are also only three poison resistant shields, making the savage tortofist a two-in-one deal.
We really need more shock and poison shields. Fire, freeze, and stun all have a lot of shield options.

It's not a big deal, and it doesn't change the point of your post, but you forgot Ironmight Plate Shield (normal + piercing + stun).

I somehow always forget that ironmight in all forms exists despite finding its helmet from a treasure box. But yeah, ironmight is pretty much the "normal resist" version of the royal jelly shield, since sleep is obsolete.

Agreed. Not to change the subject, but the one thing that I find most bothersome concerning "sets" and "classes" (especially with that "gunner update") is the total & complete lack of diversity for shields in regards to handgun & bomb users. The fact that I use a sword as a primary armament almost 95% of the time I play doesn't automatically mean that I (or anyone else) wouldn't also want a shield that will amplify the ASI/CTR/DMG of whatever bomb or gun I have equipped as a secondary weapon.
Quite frankly, it's actually more than a little insulting that for all of the "new content" that's been introduced ever since the release of the Barbarous Thorn Shield, not one moment seems to have been spent questioning if handgun and bomb users would like to have their own class-specific 5-star shields with similar effects. :/
