I'll be more specific, since the answer is always going to be "yes" to this.

Realistic kind of fixed

"The slot machines were fixed such that the highest payout only occurred when the machine earned at least twice what it would have to give out in total; there were no winners."

Result of said fixing: I will personally buy 20 dollars worth of prize boxes this event, because the game's servers need funding and I want to resemble a monkey.

Correct kind of fixed

"The black kat event was fixed, such that it didn't feel like never ending tedium; no one likes being 'Alone in the Dark' for two weeks and Spiral Knights is beyond such things."

Result of said fixing: I will personally buy 50 dollars worth of prize boxes this event, because the game did the right thing and actually deserves the money.

My 30 dollars probably won't convince anyone that it's worth fixing, but I have a hard time believing that in the long run such a strategy would pan out worse than the current strategy of slowly letting the game die, as if phone games are going to be an easier fight to win. If there's some reason beyond "grinding = force players to pay" that the event isn't being changed that we should be aware of that someone along the lines of Atalanta would like to share, I'd love to hear it.

Now that I've put that out there, time to be optimistic and hunt some kats with my dearest friends!

very well sir thank you sir

very well sir thank you sir I'll wait a few days sir to see if a GM replies or if the kats are dropping more books sir or something else sir

After all, it's not too late for them to issue a patch... 500 or even 1000 pages = 1 book of dark rituals, is all it takes.

You must farm!

OOO makin me be like...

EDIT: Really NOT a fan of breaking the volcanic=burning effects pattern, OOO. Volcanic Spiraltail should be the Firetail accessory (Similar to Volcanic Wolver Tail, Volcanic Valkyrie Wings, you know...everything else that burns besides weirdly named Magmatic stuff, pretty much?) This is relatively new behavior and I strongly advise against it.

EDIT: Oh, this thread is more about the kat event, not the box. Oh well. Insert "rage against this event" stuff I've posted before, but with more "Why the hecks didja skip Tortodrones?" Response: "Nothing is set in stone regarding non-annual events." Me: "IDC!"

> Crappy 5* armor

> Crappy 5* armor counterparts still cost the same as the OP black kat raiment.
> Can't invite people to random encounters anymore.
> No way to get the 5* helm without grinding like hell. SOME PEOPLE HAVE NEVER FOUND ONE IN YEARS
> New content boss stuck behind paywall
> Not having kats be randomly spawned anywhere else in the arcade
> THEY SKIPPED TORTODRONES

Since when has OOO ever fixed anything apart from making it worse? (adjusting drop rates* [fancy business talk for nerfing stuff])

Arcade machines? Sorry if I'm being dense, what are you referring to?

Spending money on the game will not convince them to produce maps or be more hands on. In fact, it'll cause the opposite, as proven by the entire past year, where it's just gambling addict monetization, whether intentional or not.

Arcade machines as in slots- http://www.goldfrapp.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/slot2.jpg

I'll go change the OP.

@Petater

I don't think it has much to do with what we've done to be honest. The way I see it is that someone at SEGA Networks sees phone gaming as the way of the future and has decided that SEGA Networks' big new project is going to be buying up talent and putting it to "good" use creating phone games.

From our perspective we really only have two options to change things- pay, or not pay. Angry complaints, trying to find a third option.. those are still things we should be doing, but aren't our primary concern. Paying = servers staying up, the game continuing, and eventually even getting worked on. Sooner or later they might realize that the phone game market is too saturated to benefit them and that they have a good community right here- we only really need one person working on the game for big changes to come about. Our other option of not paying gets the message across, but also gets another message across- "don't make Spiral Knights stuff because we're not paying for it"-- this is the message that will be heard first, and for me is the lesser option.

No one (OK technically you do and I'm sure there are a few others...) cares about the polar halo bug. It only effects you at long range, and only applies to that one accessory that only a handful of people even own, since it was at 0% in its box.

They haven't even fixed the damn lag... Why would they even worry about some event when there are costumes to recolor?

(Go ahead mods punish me, you can't hurt me... The percentage of love I have this game can currently be measured in single digits)

Have you ever been punished for criticizing this game? How?

I've seen mods "punish" posters for foul language, revealing spoilers, discussing updates in non-official threads when there was an official thread sitting right there, etc. But criticism is rampant on these forums, and the mods seem not to mind. Which is as it should be. They shouldn't suppress legitimate criticism. So do they?

wasn't my question

You're being sarcastic. The moderation is far from flawless. We've discussed how the moderators seem understaffed and slow to respond, for example to cross-posts.

But that's very different from moderators who actively suppress legitimate criticism. That's what I'm asking about. I can't remember ever seeing it. (But then I wouldn't, if they were really good at it... ;)

I'm not being sarcastic. If the moderation weren't flawless, I'd make the make the same comment or get banned. Luckily, the moderation is flawless and there's no issue.

It's really not fun.
Like at all.
At least with all the other events you know that you'll definitely get tokens, but it just requires some grinding.
But with Kat you get nothing but a very, very slim chance you'll actually find something that drops tokens and even if you do happen to find one it just drops a measly amount. If you want a book you'll just have to give up because there's practically no chance you'll find one.
It's not worth the time or effort.

let's be clear

But with Kat you get nothing but a very, very slim chance you'll actually find something that drops tokens and even if you do happen to find one it just drops a measly amount.

I can understand why players would be frustrated by Books of Dark Rituals. You have to grind extremely hard, or get extremely lucky, to find one.

However, Ancient Pages are not hard to get. They're probabilistic, but the chances are set so that you can easily get 70 of them in a single Kataclysm. I'm swimming in them, and I don't even grind very much. So complaints about these tokens don't make sense to me.

Well...

However, Ancient Pages are not hard to get.
If you're in tier 3 and have a fair amount of gear, I agree with you.

If you're in tier 2 I can see how the ancient pages would be a problem. However at the same time, I don't think many tier 2 players are so invested in the game to consider grinding ancient pages in the first place.

It's kind of funny when you think about it- getting the 3* black kat set would basically set most T2 players for life, and for only 70 tokens per hat and 3-5K energy per armor. Most T2 armor gives around +1, maybe +2 to one gear line... black kat gives +3 to all and +1 to MSI. It's like a ticket from farming jelly king to farming dreams and nightmares with skill and a handful of orbs as the only limiting factors.

3* black kat set + swiftstrike buckler
2x HP trinkets + HP Sprite perk

Supernova/Valiance

Far from optimal, but with a reliable source of radiant fire crystals you can craft your way up to whatever else you can imagine... unless you can imagine owning a mixmaster, celestial vortex, etc.

Even if you were extremely unlucky, and don't encounter a non-scripted bk, you could get +60 tokens just from the daily prestige (around 40 for t2 players). And since the tokens don't expire (unlike with the other events' tokens - except for sigils [and ancient shells]) one could easily get enough tokens for the 3* helm in two events.

But the reason why the bk event is the best event is the tokens. Yes it does require grinding, but even at the end of the event, you can sell fetishes for 40k cr, which is way more then what you could make out from hallow/frosty which always flods the market during the event. And, again, since the tokens don't expire, you can just wait after the event when the prices go back up, or even for the start of the next event when the prices of them are higher.

RNG can be a [bucket] sometimes (hell, over 5,5 events I only found 1 book), but even from the mat you can make some easy profit (unlike with the trash of most other event related items).

Ofc, if you want the book to own a BKC, just can only pray and keep grinding (during the event and in general). It is the price for free elevators.
