So i have a few ideas for new categories of weapons (idk how this hasn't been added yet)

( 2 dashes -- equals category one dash - equals sub category)

--Swords

-2 handed swords
i feel like there should be 2 handed blades and that some blades should be made 2 handed how would this work? let me explain.
Basically you would be slower with your weapon swings but you would do more damage the downfall is that you wouldn't have a sheild. You should still be able to block though just not as long also your movement speed is slowed.

-Short sword/dual wielding
Now i know a bunch of people have wanted this before but it should honestly be a thing here's how it should work.
Your attacks are a lot faster at the cost of weapon damage the swords in the striker line should classify as this blocking is minimal thing also your movement speed is sped up.

--Axes/Hammers?

-2 handed axes
now lets say you don't implement 2 handed SWORDS well why not add a new weapon type that is meant for it. 2 handed axes would behave basically the same as 2 handed swords except with a bit more reach
if not axes how about 2 handed hammers? i honestly think there is a lot of design and potential here and could give the game new life.

-1 handed axes
These would do less damage but can be thrown from a distance returning to the owner after the hit they would be in between fast and normal attack speed

--Lances/Spears

This might be stretching it a bit but how about a weapon that's just meant for more range i know guns could do that but they wouldn't have the knockback also guns are meant for LONG range lances would be more medium ranged allowing players to jab at the monsters instead of getting close and slicing. (I honestly think that the lances with a blade at the end would look a lot better like in fire emblem)

Well that's it really i'll let you guys decide the rest like how the damage would work and such this is just a idea a seed but the question is will you plant this seed? keep in mind i don't think you guys should HAVE to do all of these i think you should do at least like one of them a lot of fans have been waiting for something new something fresh well that's all i have to say. -Pix

um

these have all been suggested before, in much more detail, and in much better grammar
look them up on google (the built in forum search is broken), its better to necro and add to an old thread rather than to make a completely new (and completely redundant) thread

Eh

Being honest it's not bad that they've posted their ideas in a new thread. If the thread was a single one of these, yeah, I would say go necro one of the hundreds of other threads, but a compilation of ideas isn't too bad, even if all of them have been suggested before.

So I'm going to go ahead and smack your suggestion's hope and dreams around a bit, and we'll see where it ends up.

- - Two Handed Weapons and Dual Wielding - -
Going to come off strong here and say no. Shielding is much more than just blocking damage - it is the livelihood of almost all advanced weapon tactics. Dual wielding two weapons is a bad mechanic in the flow of this game - creating new weapons that use two hands is plausible however. The difference here would be that using two hands would not have any real gameplay effect over using one hand. You could still shield, charge attacks, etc... It might just be more of a troika situation. Cosmetics are always welcome.

Only problem here is you would need to create unique animations for these new weapons. I don't mean just for attacking either - shield bash, shielding itself, and the charge animation would need a new appearance. Not really bad, but just something that goes deeper than just "add weapons".

My personal thoughts on this is to make more unique shields. The shield would act as a weapon, such as countering attacks, deflecting bullets, or perhaps giving player-buffs (or have a percent chance to dodge an attack entirely rather than block the damage. Less reliable, but when it works, it's more effective). The more attributes we give shields, the more advanced shieldplay can become. With more advanced shieldplay, well, the need for two-handed weapons effectively drops to zero.

- - Axes and Hammers - -
Still hold true to my "two hands cosmetic" approach, so two-handed hammers and axes would still be a cosmetic appearance.

However, you see to see axes as a sort of throwable weapon? While this is a gun's job, I'm sure you could sneak throwing axes into the game through various ways, such as a 3-hit combo where the final attack is throwing the ax. However, the ax can act like a bomb, in that you throw it but it's still with you. If you wanted to throw your weapon like a boomerang that'd be more for a charge attack.

- - Lances and Spears - -
Here's one that's been suggested for a long time due to the extreme lack of piercing swords. Having "heavy" piercing swords would also allow for a nerf to the flourish's rather absurd range. Having these swords have extended range however be more single target instead of a wider area of effect would also fill an interesting niche.

I also want to make a gorgo kebab, and lances seem the most appropriate in that area.

So bottom line is two hands bad, unless cosmetic. More weapon ideas good, especially if they bring new styles of play to the table (axes/lances).

Hmm

This seems really interesting. I have nothing to contribute, but I am in support of this.

@Fangel

Just a correction: for so long we've been under the illusion that Three Rings doesn't implement dual-wielding because the shield is so crucial, and in a way that's correct. But there's a bigger reason why, that has been brought up on other highly skill-based action RPGs. (namely Secrets of Grindea, which has very similar combat mechanics to Spiral Knights) Dual Weilding isn't underpowered, it's actually overpowered, because obviously its implementation is "lose shield for more damage" or some variant thereoff, but we already do a lot of damage.

Dual Weilding would be like the weapon slot equivalant of Chaos Cloak.

Equip Chaos Cloak
Equip Dual Wield
Equip BTS
Nothing stands against you
Win game

There are already two too many broken weapons in the game, (Acheron, Blitz Needle) plus a plethora of not broken, but still overpowered ones. We don't need more.

To lazy to give this a title

who said it would give a huge boost to dmg if anything they could just make it a speed buff with decreased dmg they could implement it easily they have the power to do anything they want to the game.

maybe if you give up your shield your armor also gets a debuff allowing you to be killed way easier which brings me to another idea.you know the plate sheilds what if they made it so it can protect 2-3 people allowing for "class roles".While i still like the idea of not having a set of skills in the game and being able to change your play style at any time this would allow the use of guilds and parties to be more common.

if anything they should debuff the damage so that you have to use parties and groups that way it's actually hard for people to solo and grind CR i think it's stupid that i'm 4* and can clear 2 of the rooms on the first floor (obviously on normal)

if anything even if they just reskinned some of the weapons and allowed them to have some different variants that would make me happy it's something at least.

The "boost to damage" isn't from weapons having increased damage, it's the fact that you're attacking twice as fast with multiple weapons. If I had a final flourish and an acheron, then I would get two combos out in the time it would take to get one combo out otherwise, and in general the damage output would be stupid high.

Giving up your shield reducing defense won't do much for people who already are playing glass cannons. These are the people who will quickly be wearing 3* gear with stat buffs rather than wearing 5* gear in defensive gear. Creating glassier gear won't matter when you make it more cannon.

Creating different shield variants, such as a guardian shield, might be worthwhile. Granted, it would need to be properly balanced, but it could work.

If you debuff the damage too much players will ignore the option. If you're playing on elite enemies have a decent amount of health, and in parties, damage boosts make it bearable. Playing on normal difficulty will make things much easier - if you want the game to play out like it originally did, play on advanced.
