Just a few minor changes to guilds (nothing dramatic I promise)

1. 'Tags'

This is almost self-explanatory. It is in essence just something to make it easier for people to find what they are looking for in a guild. To make it easier, here is a dramatic representation.

Guildless Knight: "Dangit, my guild's dead! I loved (insert guild name here), and I don't want to go to the forums and trawl through endless pages of 'Echo of Silence sister guild 07, only 10k ce entry fee' to find another one like it, whatever will I do?"

Creepy Salesknight: "That, my young friend, is where the GuildFinder (TM) tool comes in! see that button that magically appeared in your Friends Tab? simply click that and type in some things that you would like to see in your new guild!"

Guidless Knight: "Ooook...erm... lets see... um, I have no idea of what to type"

Creepy Salesknight: "No need to fear! just click that 'popular tags' button"

Guildless Knight: "Yep, I see it, ok...well I'm not a big Rp-er, and I think I've had enough Vana farming for one lifetime... aha! this one looks cool"

User Interface Knight: "Jelly Knights, a growing and tight-knit of passionate worshippers of the Royal Jelly (runs every 3 hours from 8-3 EST, see Officer Generic-Knight for details)

Guildless Knight: "Always loved JK, I choose you Jelly Knights!"

Creepy Saleskngiht: "Well would you look at that, a giant Apply to Join button!"

SCENE

So ya, it's kinda just turning Guilds into Steam groups (but still only 1 guild at a time, you raving socialites)

Hmm.

I'm fairly certain that this is 100% what the guild recruitment forum is for. The guilds list what they stand for, how they run, and how to get in. They're all in a neat list for you to sort through.

This is meant to be an in game version of the guild recruitment forums, but with a search engine built in so you don't have to trawl through pages of stuff as well as an application button to allow for a one-click system to alleviate the pain that comes when GM's don't post their IGN in the thread.

Eh

Chances are if you're looking for a guild, you'll either A) get around to the right people in the right guild already or B) be redirected to the guild recruitment forums. You can see what guilds are still active from the threads trending, especially if they run on an application system.

This feature might be helpful if we have ten thousand active players and several hundred active guilds, but we have neither of these things.

Fangel new knights suck at finding stuff and aren't going to go dig through our forum trash to find a guild and if they do it'll probably be EoS (I mean they have like 500 pages of guild recruitment must be good amirite) who will just turn them down unless they already know what they're doing and haven't gotten on anyone's bad side and god knows what else it takes to be in the club. If you don't believe me go look through that thread and point out all of the random people and then turn to your guild roster and ask yourself if that sub forum is working and you will say no.

What guilds need is a restructuring. When the game started guilds were more community oriented because the quality of the players wasn't as desperate and you had mature people that actually liked playing the game playing the game. So stop telling Mr. Eggo why he is wrong and consider this-

1. Guild master has the option to open the guild recruitment to everyone and set gear/rank requirements to join.
2. Players can see a list of guilds they can join, with a description of that guild etc.
3. Players joining the guild have a new special rank called something like 'Rookie' and must get promoted
4. A guild can have x rookies at a time. Lets say 25. If a cookie doesn't log in for a week they're out of the guild.
5. Rookies who get promoted to recruit are officially guild members, and gain the < guild tag > above their head.
6. Recruits cannot be demoted to cookie rank.
7. Dead guilds are automatically turned to not receiving members, as are guilds full on members/cookies.

This way all newer players are forced into groups at the start of the game, without someone having to go way out of their way to collect all of the newbz and herd them like cattle into their pen, because lets face it guild masters/officers are players too and can't just go full recruitment robot all the time, maintaining a forum post etc. when all of the recruitees are scattered across the universe hiding behind rocks and in random parties alone wondering why they haven't been found yet. Really this should have been in the guild update instead of the cosmetics.

Revamping guild recruitment as a whole would be a nice function, however I think custom guild ranks would be far more helpful.

Players who are just starting the game are going to be enamored by the gameplay first. Because of who's in it right now they won't really talk to many people early on. After investing a bit in the game, they'll start to see the more community area of the game, and want to join a guild, talk about the game, etc.
Now, I'd say a bulletin board in Haven that individual members could hang notes up for each other on would be a great addition. You buy a lot that lasts up to 3 days or so, and people visiting the board can read your messages. Limited to one note per knight.

Guilds could advertise on this board, and new players could see what guilds are recruiting. Could be used for many other things too, so that's a good plus on top of it.

@Fangel

So, by bulletin board you mean a combination of twitter (no page long notes) and the existing forums (this basically invalidates both the Guild Recruitment forum and the Bazaar forum) in game? I would actually kinda like that

@Fehzor
Do you at all mind if a borrow a feather or two for my Fangel-proof shield? They seem to work.

Sorta

Basically short messages posted for limited time so yeah.

Bazaar forum is still useful for keeping logs of things, extended posts (selling large amounts of gear), and isn't deleted after a few days. Guild Recruitment is still useful for application-based guilds, more detailed posts, etc. The bulletin board would be for short posts. I can see guilds banding together to keep a spot on the board saying "recruiting!", and bazaar people could post a note saying "check out node XXX for these items!". Would work wonderfully. Being able to tag your posts with predetermined keywords would be good, such as "guild", "merchant", "help", and more so you could sort through them.

The way I see it is that at some point the playerbase starts to dwindle. People play for a day, get tired after 2-3 hours and never log back in like oh that was fun, or maybe it takes a few days but all the same there's a big fall off. Around this point is where guilds need to come into play, which is why I said to provide a way for people to join guilds without going through the hassle of being invited or finding a guild or any of that. Just pop open the menu and click join. This would likely resemble a bulletin board so I do think that we're all on the same page.
