What do you love most about spiral knights?

I booted up spiral knights and was listening to the select knight music and I almost cried because of noglastia.
I really enjoy this music as it slowly builds from peaceful to mildly important to calm and peaceful again.

I love the game, but the music and art are the cherry on top. Luckily I'll have these to cherish forever.

What was one of your small, favorite things about the game.

art work

I love the art style. The characters and scenery are adorable. Even though the world is a pastiche of cultures thrown together (e.g. medieval and futuristic), it forms a coherent whole. The art also fits nicely with the humorous tone. The humor is most explicit in places like Heart of Ice, but the game doesn't take itself very seriously in general.

In most competing games that I've seen, the artwork seems designed to exploit adolescent power fantasies and romantic fantasies, using a cast of musclebound super-soldiers and scantily clad super-vixens in melodramatic save-the-world scenarios. That's not for me.

I'M NOT ALONE I CAN'T BELIEVE IT

I basically did everything you did last time I got on after being on hiatus for about a year. *sniffle*

I have way more than one tiny thing I like about SK...but if I had to choose only one of my favorite things? Hmmm....

Oh, I remember.
The fact that there is armor in the game that totally matched my username. XD I recall completely making up the name, and when I found the family set of Angelic Armor, I went crazy. My dad said I HAD to get it, so I did. I still wear it to this day as my default set (despite making FSC harder!).

BONUS: Several years ago, when the Valkyrie Wing promo was out, I spent ten whole bucks to get a box. I didn't care how much I had to spend, I HAD TO HAVE THOSE PHENOMENAL WINGS. The box was nice enough to give me Toasty Valkyrie wings, and I sold them for the money to get Military Valkyrie wings (which were the closest thing to my personal color.). I haven't regretted the decision at all, they just make my avatar look shinier and more "divine". ^-^

are you me?

Angel-Girl you sound like, exactly like my scenario. You know, "angel" in the name in all. Went ahead and made valkyrie as my first set as well!

But I wasn't active when the valkyrie wings promo came out. However, when accessories came out with battle sprites (dragon and valkyrie wings), I can assure you that that was the fastest I've ever thrown $10 at a game ever. I regret nothing.

However, getting on topic, this game just hits the nail of pretty much everything I love in a game. The artstyle is cute, however everything in the world feels alive and has personality. The residents of the game take themselves very seriously, despite wacky things happening that are silly to us players, but legitimate problems in the universe of the game. Take a look at Biscotti and uh, the creep cakes. Problem was very real, but humorous to us.

I love the music - its electronic style but perfect fades between power and ambience are wonderful. The melodies being used in various places are wonderful as well, as it has that essence of familiarity to it. When you first start the game you're met with the crash site theme, which is a remix of the main theme, which plays throughout the game in critical or powerful moments. The contrast between upbeat and sorrow are incredible while keeping in the same musical styles.

The gameplay is simple to understand, but incredibly difficult to master - and at the same time there are several ways to set up your controls! Arrow key movement, WASD, controller, heck, even mouse movement. On top of that you can bind multiple keys to do the same thing. Then you have starter gameplay which is hack n' slash, and late-game gameplay which is advanced manipulation of animation canceling.
Then on top of that you have the different playstyles, and battle sprites to augment your playstyle. I never thought a drakon would fit me, but it's the battle sprite I use most of the time now.

Community and randomization fall into play even more, and player appearance doesn't make any huge push for any set stereotype. You aren't a swordie if you look like a wolver, you aren't a newbie if you're wearing proto, you're not a girl because you're wearing a dress, etc. Personal style is all that really plays into appearances, and since you can change appearance on the fly you aren't stuck with what you were thinking when you started playing the game half a decade ago.
Community is fun, and you can see the different tiers of players. Since it's not a humongous community you can feel like you know a lot of the people you see in haven just because you see them often. Leading new players on old adventures for their first time is magical.
Game randomization is something I love too as it leads to newer or exciting adventures.

So uh, I just love the game in its entirety.

So many things....

Ugh this game was my first MMO game... I also don't normally post much on the forums, but this post deserves attention. I started after beta ended... A friend dragged me into this game. I remember every bit of excitement pushing onward towards the boss levels in the olden days... Back before missions took you right to the boss levels. I remember being excited to wake up for a new tank of mist. I remember the beautiful haven music that trumped and still trumps all other game village music. The excitement of winterfest, the first anniversary where I got my cupcake helm... the punkin king's debut onto Cradle... Honestly, this game will have a special place in my heart even if it dies. No matter what changes they make, it won't ever cross my mind to hate this game.

I really loved reading everyone else's respones. Thank you, for making me happy to be a player.

:/

Innocent art style and story line: let's face it, despite all the praises we give to Nick, his story building needs serious work. But that is something we can use to our advantage and make SK fan fiction all the more fun. And the lack of gender makes turning cute knights into sanctly clad super vixens a guilty pleasure of mine. MORE DESTROYED CHILDHOOD!!!

That felt deep

@Doomskull: *Slow clap* You said pretty much what I've been thinking for the past week.

@Fangel: XD Really? That's funny. (Creepy randomness, but yesterday or so, I saw you in Haven's entrance, and went "Oh look, it's Fangel!" Since I've seen you a lot on the forums. :P)

"Controls are simple but difficult to master"
So true! I happened to never get amazing at lockdown but if I'm honest I'd put myself at the top 150 if i'm having a REALLY good game.

Keep the good times rollin people.
