Really, the most successful games seem to have some sort of modding system. No, I don't know how this could be implemented without allowing users to host their own servers. However, by letting the community make stuff (even if the modding UI is pretty bad), SK should last a whole lot longer!

Mods have a different name in MMOs, we call them hacks.

Better give us the level editor instead.

The day SK goes open source it'll appear on https://github.com/greyhavens

Hmm...

The way you could approach this really depends on why you want mods. What features, specifically, are you are hoping to see/use in Spiral Knights? If you are creative or technically minded, what is it you want to do with Spiral Knights if you could modify it?
