I think it would be entertaining if Jellies could combine to become larger (like Lichen) or perhaps to be different it could start as a big slow cube that when sufficiently damaged would break into 8 normal sized ones. Then you could go for a 3^3 that would split into 27.
My computer would probably grind to a halt, but a 4^3 Stone Jelly would make for a diabolical boss battle or a danger room.

green jellies that spplit apart continuosly. isnt that kinda minecrafts idea of a jelly?? lol. but that would be nice to see
The yellow jellies (not 100% sure if they're jelly or not) they combine. They can combine like 5 times I think? Until they reach a large jelly ball that is covered in spines and is red. It can also shoot spines in 4 directions. Did I forget to mention they have quite a bit of HP?
Wait until they grow horns. You'd never expect it from cute little lichens...
I would prefer the combining gimmick to be unique to one type of monster only. I don't want nearly every monster I encounter in a dungeon to be able to combine up. While it's true that it would make it hectic and therefore more enjoyable for some people, it would also be a real pain to anyone who doesn't want a chaotic romp through a dungeon just yet.
I think the Green Jellies split apart.
They go from one huge one, to some smaller ones, then smaller ones again.
I don't know if they're in game right now, though.
