Shield bash upgrade...?

First off, I'm not sure how many players there are who are like me and frequently use their shield bash. As I'm sure you all know, charging into a monster with your SB will stun it and use about half of your shield's health.

But today I had an idea: what if your shield bash could inflict status effects other than stun?

Now, personally I'm not entirely sure how this would work. If the status effect inflicted upon a monster by a shield was that of which the shield was resistant to, then that would be a somewhat redundant feature (considering that monsters who inflict a status are immune to said status). For example, using the Dragon Scale Shield to inflict fire and poison on a Toxoil would achieve nothing as Toxoils themselves inflict fire and poison. You could argue that, if this feature was included in the game, you have the choice to either a) have a shield with the best possible defense against the present status and/or damage type, or b) have a shield that is not appropriate for strongest defense, but the status resist can be inflicted upon monsters.

So perhaps there would be some other status, one or more, that would be inflicted upon monsters when hit by a shield bash. This would mean a column for the shield's damage resistance, status resistance, AND 'inflictable' statuses. But would this just be too complicated??

I'd love to know your thoughts on this idea and how it could be improved!

Unique Variant: Fire/Freeze/Poison/Shock Bash

Or a trinket, or armor buff that does this (probably for the best since a UV like this would be pretty ridiculous)

Yeah, I feel like a shield bash status UV would be kind of annoying - it would create less chance for other UVs to appear. Also it may be useless in some cases, such as a shield with flame resist getting a UV fire status.

Thanks for the reply!

a UV would be fine

Currently shields only get type defense UVs (normal, pierce, etc) which have nearly no effect, so there's no threat of the variant pool being too large

Stun is the most universal

Various statuses on the shield bash could open up a lot of different combat choices, such as a fire bash on ice cubes or a poison bash on gremlins. The only problem is that the shield bash, while an offensive attack, is one of the most vulnerable attacks in the game. Shield bashing into a group of enemies to clear a way through is fine and all, but if they aren't stunned then they'll likely land a hit on you.

If other statuses were implemented, the shield bash would need a much higher knockdown/flinch rate, or additional combat attributes (such as knockback on tortoshield bashes).

I would recommend not having these be UVs due to the issue of wanting a stun shield bash and crafting an item with a fire UV, rerolling it and getting freeze, then fire, etc. Instead I would recommend having certain item's shield bashes granting different status effects, or alternatively giving players a trinket that aligns damage to deal a certain status, and would stack like defense UVs (+4 is maximum). Each 5* trinket would grant +2.5 (or whatever puts it in line with other defensive trinkets). At +1, all non-status charge attacks have a chance to inflict a status. At +4, all non-status charge attacks have a high chance to inflict status. At +5, all non-status standard attacks have a chance to inflict a minor status. At +8, all non-status standard attacks have a moderate chance to inflict (minor) status, and charge attacks can inflict moderate status. Same-status weapons stack their status intensity (i.e., +8 stun makes fearless rigadoon inflict stun a lot).

Then throw the +2 bonuses on various pieces of equipment, and treat the shield bash as a "charge attack". Bam, status shield bashes that you have some level of control over.
