I can't remember 100%, but I recall getting the feeling that it's not from the wording of the prompt that allows you to invite people.
Edit: Just to clarify, the prompt reads "Invite 5 friends and get an exclusive costume helm, the Steam Knight Helm! This is fancy steampunk-inspired knight helm is only obtainable as an invitation reward." (they didn't proof read apparently xD)

THe helm
It just looks like a "rock jelly helm" with a few holes to look through and a few of those holes from the "cobalt helm" plus a gas mask. New sort of crafting maybe? Cross between jelly and cobalt series? If so awesome!

I believe only steam players are able to get this at the moment, they are in fact adding the feature for us to link our accounts to steam. Means we can get the mask as well (:
