So it was like a week ago in another topic. I went offline until recently, so couldnt read it. Until now. But it was offtopic already, so i dont feel like writing into that topic anymore.
The question was:
One question, how in the hell do you get so many crowns if you don't spend real money veridian, thats insane!
Oh man... Its actually not that simple to answer that. But i'll try a short version anyway.
DISCLAIMER: there is no big secret in my answer so if someone is reading this and hoping for some kind of miracle they will be disappointed.
First off: Time.
I played this game a lot in the past years. Like REALLY LOT. I'm currently at 5117 hours according to steam.
I remember i set some goals for myself at a pretty early stage of the game (after like 2-3 months of playing). And tried not to buy any stuff that was not necessary. Of course over the years i couldnt help it and still ended up spending some crowns sometimes on something not so smart :) But overall i can say i have bought almost no accessories and no costumes at all. I know im like maybe the only one who actually doesnt care about those, but yeah at least one dude exists like that, and now you know it :D The only stuff i really wanted ever was a prismatic rose set and a rose aura, but those cost like insanely lot, so i kind of given up on them or at least delayed them until i finish all my UVs (which probably will never happen, tho' im pretty close! :P) cuz they are more important to me.
So i think cuz of this perspective i actually reserved a lot of crowns for myself. So instead i spend all my goodies on gears and weapons ^^
Second thing: Love of the game.
Probably the most important. I just love this game, l keep playing it and never get bored by it. And if you actually play the game for a long time (and not just staying afk in haven) you will end up eventually getting rich no matter what, trust me :)
The only question is how you are willing to spend it.
Third thing: Hardcore grinding.
There are several things in this game you can abuse for more wealth. One of that things is farming/grinding certain missions. Of course there are other things too, but i was never interested anything outside that, so i will write only about farming.
So the main thing about this is if you dont actually like to play the game you will never enjoy this part. And if you dont enjoy it, there is no reason to do it thus it will be a struggle for you. In this case just skip this part, also im sad to inform you but your game is probably not Spiral Knights at all. Cuz hey, you dont like the game, then what are you doing in it?!
But if you like it then as simple as that it will be nothing more than just playing the game, having fun with friends (and getting rich in the process).
One important thing is: always know why are you playing the certain levels you play and play according to that.
For example: if you want to just have fun with friends, then so be it fool around as much as you want and care not about anything else :) Cuz ultimately thats the point of the game right?
BUT
If you want to actually acquire something (rarity and/or materials and/or crowns and/or heat and/or minerals and/or tokens etcetcetc) you should think about the most efficient way to do it. Speed is the essence of the whole Spiral Knights as far as actual effective gameplay goes.
So always keep asking yourself the question: how do i get the thing i want the fastest way? And if you figured it out, then well... think again, cuz there is probably another even faster way!
There is always space to improve in this area, trust me :) Even after one played years of this game :D And thats another important thing... that it keeps the game more interesting (at least for me).
Alright, i think its enough about farming isnt it? :)
Fourth thing: The new stuff.
Alright so many many ppl claim there is nothing new in this game since years. Now im not saying that they are wrong but yeah they are wrong! :)
So... If there is something new in the game and you farmed it first (of course it applies not only farming but everything thats actually new and you possess), you can always sell it for ridiculous amount of money :P Why? Cuz it is new :D
I sold several things like that. How did i manage it? See the reasons in the 3rd thing section. For example as far as i know i sold the second apocrean aura ever for 35 kce (the same thing that costs like 600-800 kcr now). Same with Black Kat Raiment, sold a clean piece for 60 kce (nowadays idk... like 30 kce tops?) was again probably a second ever seller.
So the point is the new things are always the most expensive. And if you can farm it... $_$
Edit: This somewhat applies to not-so-common event stuff too, cuz they cant be farmed all the time. Altho' obviously its very likely that the more that event appears the less those stuff will worth. But there are still some things worth to farm in events. Not to mention it involves some uncommon mission farming for several days which is pretty fun ^^
Fifth and last thing: Luck and big numbers.
If you play a lot you will eventually find "rare drops" (like a gear/weapon drop from loot boxs, True Love Locket from a Love Ppy, Haunted Aura from a Mewkat <3 or some Impostocube drops, etcetcetc) more often, and you can make a relatively nice profit instantly.
+1 thing: Use your stuff!
You can always use almost everything in your arsenal. You just need to figure out a way how to do it. So dont let them just lay around! ^^ That is if you actually want to get rid of them ofc.
Alright well yeah that was the short version. :D I could write on and on about this as you probably figured it out by now. I'll stop tho' cuz i honestly doubt there will be more than 5 people who reads this until the end. :)
Though I wasn't the one who asked the question, it's nice reading the response. I, too, don't care much for cosmetics, so I know what that's like. This also means I never mess with prize boxes at all.
I also have a UV goal as well which I'm almost done with, one non-useless UV on every 5* weapon I have, plus status resistance on certain armour sets for wisp immunity. I'm not trying to go for those ASI/CTR/Damage Highs and all that stuff, but it's still been expensive. I'm willing to use real money though, and I've spent about ~$150 on SK total (not all on UVs), but I've held back due to not wanting to fund OOO and SK during the content-less promo flood. I'm gonna drop in another $25 once the transfer is official, though.
