http://prntscr.com/asy0ky why is the energy price rising so high?
hot diggity damn
I mean it was at 11k not too long ago.
There's not enough incentive to buy energy with real money, and not enough players who want to sell the energy they've accumulated. We have too many crowns and not enough crown sinks, but also too little energy with too many energy sinks.
When there is incentive to buy energy again (eg. if grey havens keeps surprise boxes as a year round prize box for buying energy in clumps of $10) then we'll see prices drop. AH featured auction sales being more numerous and desirable would surely help the crown sink area too.
Basically players value energy higher than it's really worth. Simply don't buy energy from the market and make all your conversions for purchases into crowns since they are the only currency with a "real" value. Energy is sort of like the stock market in terms of "crown value", but crowns is always the same.
Crowns have been losing their worth for a long time, mainly due to players getting their way with the "directly buying price boxes without the bundled energy" thing. Abolish that or better yet, add in another layer of gambling by putting a random amount of energy into those boxes. "I unboxed a Dazed Headband but got 100 000 energy!" moves product even if the odds are akin to a scratch card.

Well, RNGesus is going to have a field day with this one...
I'm a fan of these high energy prices. The things you buy with energy are either one time purchases (Operation Crimson Hammer, Battle Sprites), or are things that speed up progression by moving the game more towards paying to win, like orbs and fire crystals or just flat out gear pieces. I'd much rather players have to go out and farm for their orbs and fire crystals than farm for crowns to buy energy to buy them.
@Fangel
Crowns = Time spent playing a video game
Energy = Money
HMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm Which of these do we value more..?
@Fehzor
Crowns for me to be honest, never been a fan of player-run markets in video games. (I'm weird)
Also what difference does it make for people to farm for crowns (in runs) to convert for CE to buy rarities? You still have a chance of getting the said rarities while you farm for crowns any way. The only way to really ignore the farming process is yanking something off the market and reselling it back at a ridiculous price.
So you value your time spent in games more than the monetary equivalent of what you get? Good answer; it's far easier to just pay them 5 dollars than it is to grind for 236K, and the rising energy costs are only making things sweeter.
I think the trade market's getting a bit more pricey these days. Wish that should be lowered.
