Now, I'm not sayin' right away or if this'll even settle well with the community, just a thought since promos have left a bit of a sour taste in some players' mouths. Thanks, Sega, for using SK as a cash cow then dumping it. :l NOT.

We all know that Grey Havens is not-for-profit which means no one is backing them financially except for the playerbase - us. Also understand that I know that they haven't said yay or nay to new content for SK and it is still very early to expect anything, including ideas for new content, but it's just a thought. What if they did a kickstarter of some sorts to get Grey Havens started?

For instance, they could have a cash goal or something. "If the community reaches $xxxx, we'll add (insertfeaturehere) to Spiral Knights!" I think GH would be able to keep up with ideas like this provided the developers know they can code said proposed feature into the game. The idea here is, the playerbase wants new content the most. If they get funds, funds means they have cash to keep things running (general costs, paying developers etc.), keeping things running means development which might mean new content.

Ideas will be listed here. These are just ideas - not something that GH needs to do at all if they decided to do a kickstarter though it certainly would appeal to the community.

  • A supporter shrine of sorts - to commemorate those who donated large amounts to GH for the kickstarter.
  • Regarding the cancelled project, since it was for a mobile game, see if elements of it could be implemented into SK itself?

Potential downfalls will be listed here.

  • GH might not keep their word with the development after the funds are obtained
  • A kickstarter could be seen as P2P. It might turn F2Ps off to the idea, those who can't/don't want to spend money on the game.

Thoughts? Criticisms? Absolutely hate this thing and want to post your abhorrence of it? Got some ideas to add to this? I'm all ears!

This is something I've been wanting to happen for a good year or two now. I'd really like an avenue to pay for development that doesn't limit F2Pers and that also gets me content. Prize boxes are great and I love getting their contents but I really just want to buy more content.

Kickstarter or Patreon could

Kickstarter or Patreon could actually work, people could get exclusive content, or their knight could even be on a statue in the Heaven, call it "Obelisk of Supporters" or something.
As for the new content, there was a lot. According to Malakym there was a whole project canceled by Sega. Resurrecting it would be a good start. Not to mention all the other unused concepts he made during the years.

That would be cool, a supporter shrine if you will. I also didn't know that Sega cancelled a project too. :U Can't say I'm surprised though. I'll add those concepts to my post. c:

100%

I 100% agree with this, ultimately the greatest reason to even keep the game up, as well as buy CE. This process will end up having the Admins and Community closer, having the Admins ask through mail specific players for feedback, and ideas that can progress the game to be more fun.

Eh

I also didn't know that Sega cancelled a project too.
The project was Rise of Knights, the mobile SK-themed Plants vs Zombies-esk game.

I'd rather support Spiral Knights than reboot Rise of Knights, however any assets created for Rise of Knights I'd love to see implemented into SK.

Ah, thought it was a project for SK itself. It would be nice to see it be implemented into SK itself if at all possible, though the coding may be so different that it may not be possible. :c We'll have to see.
