Solutions for GH to profit+fix SK

1) Put promo boxes on auction house featured. Place rare boxes in single units with bids only, while the common/less sought boxes go for buy out prices. Starting prices can be adjusted by hand to sway the cr sink size.
2) Re-enable super brawl to bring back some pvp-ers at least temporarily. Maybe make it a temporary event if it's that broken.
3) Make a new achievement hat for tf2. You'll easily get thousands of people average again. I wish I knew the logistics of getting valve to agree to this though.
4) login rewards, specifically of the kind that may validate people playing prestige missions.
5a) Revert the October 2013 nerf of radiant crystal drops.
5b) Make forge passes exist. It's silly heat amps exist, but not forge passes/amps.

By placing promo boxes on auction house instead of directly bought with cash, it'll force people to buy ce to buy cr. That will drive down CE prices while not reducing sales.
Placing forge passes on depo will make them want to buy ce with $ in general more.
Super Brawl was a PvP mode in beta that got dropped. Probably was a bit too unbalanced for release...
That being said, we need something to bring back people period and all cards should be on the table. More PvP-ers means more spam spending by whales.

Only thing I would change would be to have recent boxes be on the AH for higher prices, and older boxes put up in a rotation. Alternatively, add all variations of surprise boxes up for cheaper prices, and standalone boxes put up for higher prices.

I'm going to do this one a solid.
This thread is mostly about Petater's first point, putting prize boxes on the featured auctions.
This model is fairly revolutionary in a sense-- in games like Team Fortress 2 the flow of valuable items is typically limited directly by the money you put in. What this is suggesting is to move that to the free to players and let the paying players buy that off of them by paying the company as a middle man of sorts.
Putting the burden of paying for prize boxes back on the free to players puts the cards in their hands, and values what they're doing-- which is important because without them there's no reason to pay anyway. Like who are you trying to impress, yourself? You can kid and say that you're buying that snipe aura because you think it's cool but the truth is that there's no reason to buy it except to be cool in Haven.
The only issue I see is that energy is currently pretty much useless in game. Energy walls (the ones that cost 3 energy) are a joke, and everything valuable is worth so much energy that it's just not feasible to pay for them with it. This could be solved by a simple price change- reduce the price of fire crystals so that people would want to buy them. Not by 10% but by a good 80-95%. The original pricing for items was incredibly low compared to how it is now, and fire crystals literally multiplied that cost by 10-- back in the day I crafted using energy. Now? I use a small bit here and there but it's just not feasible. I'd rather grind or just not play than pay up for 6,300 energy of crystals.
On the actual effort side of things, more battle sprites and easier battle sprite leveling would also really help make energy more valuable. Long time players tend to want one if not two of each sprite, and each battle sprite sold is a good 2K energy consumed to upgrade when finished. I'm on battle sprite number SEVEN and guess what? It's tiring and I hate it and I'm not upgrading it to 105 within the next year. All it needs is an autofeeder. Put a stack of 20K ecto drops into it and just play the game.
The TF2 hat idea is genius, and I've been thinking about it for a while now as well
Most TF2 hats you go in you play for 45 minutes get the hat done back to TF2 GG no more of that one thank god and guess what the Spiral Sallet in TF2 is no different.
So you want to get people back into Spiral Knights? Make the TF2 community get dauntless delver. They'll give up if they don't like the game and they'll get their hat and join the family if they don't. That's how you do a promotion.. and you make the hat good. We talked on Discord and well..
Option A: Give out rose sets in TF2. Rose sets are like our earbuds- a symbol of wealth and respect.
Option B: Give out battle sprites that follow the player in TF2. Players absolutely adore anything that follows them.
Option C: Acheron for demoknight, possibly Groat's pan since TF2 has pans and players adore the pan as well.
This requires a very minimal amount of money and coding, and a small amount of art. Yes it is effort, but the rewards it would bring in would be astronomical- you know why I'm here talking about this? Because I wanted to get a Spiral Sallet in TF2. I got hooked on the game when I went to get the TF2 hat and when that happened there was a HUGE rush in of players because our game is awesome and people need to just give it a chance.

What are the logistics of getting Valve to put another SK hat into TF2?

1) Make bombers viable again! Make a bomb that functions the way the old RSS did, Except maybe nerf the range to the radius of a nitronome, Even then it'd be nice to be able to do that again
2) Custom lockdown lobbies
1+ to all of Petater's ideas

"3) Revert to the old UI"
Why you don't like the "new" one? it should be better.

There are some aspects of the new UI that I've came around to. Shield level, health percentage, and enemy health are key among those.
The old UI however had nicer icons however. It was adorable. So if we could get an option to switch between the new and old icons we'd be in business. Another thing is showing what your current weapon is. The weapon wheel is obnoxious but without it you cannot see which weapon you're holding or which weapon(s) is/are cursed.

@Mafia-Spaghetti
I can't say "new" is always better. I for one love the old hud much more than the new. Mostly for the fact that it took up less space and felt cleaner in a way.
But either way these are great ideas, I must say. However I'd prefer reverting to the old hud and old Radiant Sun Shards over anything.
But what do I know? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/114596#comment-1030778 my take on the flat icon thing

Regular accessories on AH featured will just get people with existing cr to bid on them for resale. I said *boxes* explicitly to target the demographic that will buy CE to buy CR.
I don't know how Grey Haven can afford to keep Spiral Knights running for who knows how long. Working for a Nonprofit keeping video games alive might not pay very much. How do we keep their attention on SK, while there are more lucrative and rewarding ways for these people to spend their time? Help them put food on the table, and keep their lights on and water running.
So far making purchases have been involved in the individual level, but an individual, isolated player does not know what good the money she's putting into this game is doing other than cutting down grinding time... and if she doesn't see any effect, why bother?
But if this community can directly see effect of their contributions to keep the game running and get the updates and features they've been waiting for, I'm sure there would be more involvement and investment in keeping the game running by the players.
So how involve groups of friends, guilds, or the whole game population in general? Groups have the power to enable improvement and progress if each member of the group puts forward a small, affordable contribution. Crowd Funding, Update Pledging are big things now--contributions are as much a group experiences as it is an individual effort.
I propose having an 'Update Meter' That not only help Grey Haven to keep the game running and fill up their refrigerators, but incentivizes them to continue to develop SK. This is how it will work.
We tell GH what we want (within reason and balance) from SK, and they create a money goal in a meter from $0 to $[how much they need to set aside the time to do the thing we want] and every time players make in game purchases it the amount they spent goes to the meter. The more we help out the faster we get updates and cool features. It's not p2w because your not paying for patron privledge, but features for all.
Whatcha think?

Crowd funding a video game that's been out for 6 years seems sort of awkward. I'd much prefer open discussion/interactions with staff and the community along with a more obvious purpose to spend money on the game. Having Cronus actively answering questions about the game lately has been wonderful, and Hera popping in to be involved in the community is also a great help!
Open communication allows for us to see how things are coming along (outside of things they want to surprise us with!), especially for rebalances and things highly suggested by the community. Knowing where in updates we've come along, what's slowing it down, etc would all be great things to know.
Crowd funding works for things where a game is just being formed. It has less of an impact once key things have been re-instated. When you're making a game you can show things like "this art is finished, this area is done" etc. With an update, there's not too much to show usually until it's done.

Your idea for the promos... is... legendary.
@Petater got some good ideas too, especially the return of Super Brawl. I remember a video of a Super Brawl level with like 4 Tortodrones and it was so hilarious.
+1 to both of you.

I don't know why they decided to put the prize box for sale in the supply depot. The whole point of having those boxes were that they were given out free with a certain purchase. Now i have to buy ce THEN use that ce to buy the box?
Not happening.
If it went back to being included as an extra prize for buying ce I wouldnt mind blowing some cash.
I was thinking that if CE was going to be a necessity for Gray Havens, I think they should give more reasons to ultimately use CE. In the supply depot, promo boxes can be added permanently of any kind so players can get costumes anytime they want. Have players be able to change the color of gear in their own way and where, including costumes. Also, what is Super Brawl? is it the old pvp where no stupid striker pack ruled all of coliseum?
