Hello every fan and player of Spiral knights. It's been a while since i both played the game, and said anything in forums.

But i'd like to discuss something with fellow fans of Spiral knights, and maybe even for new ideas towards the future or past of the game.

Spiral Knight's i hear is now owned by "Gray Havens", and it sound's like their name was inspired from Spiral knights itself.
So here's what i'd like to say about myself so you understand my point of view on this game.

ABOUT MYSELF:
My real name is Michael, and i am studying Game Design at the Adelaide campus AIE "Academy of Interactive Entertainment".
I am only a first year student, and 6 months in i am writing some code. At this point in time i am doing an assignment which i am to just make a basic level, and present two working scripts of code *C#*.
I came up with the idea and the inspiration for making a level based around Spiral Knight's, because the reason been, was we had been learning to code, using a "Nav mesh agent" and making a player move where we want, and creating AI that would wander around randomly.

A few of the teachers "Not trying to advertise or anything" have done work on a few games, and the recent one we got to learn from was a game that's possibly still not out yet called "Boom Bot".
Our job, was to break the game from a players perspective, and report on our findings. Their were plenty of bugs, but in the end it was a fun, and new experience. I personally got bored, it was not my cuppa tea.

Back to the Nav mesh thing, shortly after doing work on the nav mesh level we were told to code with, we got told "Make a level, with a beginning and end". Because of the Nav mesh we worked with, i had the instant idea of Spiral knights. And not because of any reason, the level was presented in the same perspective as Spiral Knight's and i felt inspired, like it was meant to be.

So personally i set out to make this happen, and i started designing a few level, making some bits and pieces, and building a prototype with new idea's that are very much improved!
And that's where i started to the point i made something.

Now we are using Unity5 engine to build our levels, but we are coding by altering other scripts of code. However, my code for my Player control is unique to the way i designed it, as i built it from the bare bone. I solved issues with walking around, and tried really hard to make the mouse and player sync with rotation. Trying to find pieces to make the bare bones work. I had to research more, and problem solved today!

But i think the main part of what you want to know if you read this far is "What is it about?".

THE STORY:
Well, let me tell you.
The setting of this world is in the past, when the world was been built. You start off playing as a Mysterious Knight in the past who is currently named 'Pre Knight'. He's with a bunch of technicians near the core, routing power, and checking flow rates. While this is happening, something explodes near the core, and he is informed "We have an intruder". He sets off to fight off any intruders, and goes to defend the core. But once at the core, he finds a Mysterious Gremlin appear, who look's and seems like the intruder, but because of this battle taking place, on a world been build by the Gremlin's, others believe that 'Pre Knight' is the Intruder, and go to help the Mysterious Gremlin.

Once 'Pre Knight' finally beat's the Gremlin down, he believed it was finally over, but suddenly, the Gremlin comes back to life by a form and enemy known as the 'Void'. The void seems to be controlled in some way by this Gremlin, and it brings him back, and generates a blast wave that sends 'Pre Knight' Flying, and into... The core.

Pre Knight is on Cradle 40 years before Knight's arrive on the planet, but the future will be messed up, if something is not done.

So what's so special about the past you may ask, well. In the past the core is much more powerful then in the present.
This mean's any weapons and Equipment could be much more powerful then the present weapons on Cradle, and may Explain some of the Ability's of the Gremlin Race.
The enemy's of Cradle would be presented, and the special reason why the Jelly King exists! "What's for lunch?" ???

I'd like to hold back any idea's for improvement, since their is only so much that i should say.

The mechanic's would be more advanced, and your current Knight would be brought to a point in time, where Cradle is been build.
This may also hold the key for the Spiral Order leaving Cradle once and for all!

THE LAST WORDS:
Let me know what you potentially think of what i am working on.

*This project is for a school assignment only, and not for public distribution. Spiral Knight's is owned by their respective Developer's and creator's*.

Should i get a proto-type working the way i'd like to have it working, then i'd present such to the owner's if they wish to know a bit more about such, and see new mechanic's that could be used in the game for more improvement.

Spiral knight's is one of my most favorite games ahead of Terraria.

Thank you Gray Havens for keeping the SK Community alive. :)

I can tell you're a GD major from the fact you felt like you had to write 5 or so lengthy paragraphs on who you are and why we should care because you've likely got some kind of issues with either yourself of your ideas if you feel like we need to know every faucet of why you're suggesting this, despite the fact you could've just posted this concept in the suggestions forum because, let's face it, it's just a glorified suggestion (not an exceptional one however, just some generic trope-ridden plot and the good ol' "give us bigger weapons for bigger weapons' sake!".

I'd also suggest maybe running your posts through Microsoft Word or something because there were quite a few grammatical errors in that post.

Good luck on your project though, hope you can get something out of it!

A working project will be

A working project will be good. Just getting ready to sleep, and drew up some GUI (Graphical User Interface) pieces, to get ready to throw on the player.
I am hoping to not over crowed it, but i can change it as need be.
BTW, the "give us bigger weapons for bigger weapons" is not necessarily what its all about.

Bigger weapons don't necessarily have more punch then that of smaller weapons. And because of the point in time where they'd be building the planet, and interesting Technological advancement in some way. Because they have a IMMENSE amount of energy they could use in this time line, they could turn small weapons into the most powerful weapons in the arsenal, while powerful weapons from SK could straight up be inferior only because they don't have that technology to back them up.

In Spiral knight's, i found quite a few fun features missing, especially in fast paced scenes where you had to be ABSOLUTELY PERFECT with what you did, or else everything corners you and you then die.
I have the intention of maneuverability and more ways to kill an enemy then just "Range, Close, Area".

I have even the intention of a greater amount of versatility with weapons, depending on the expense of said weapon.

It does not have to be a real game, but heck, if it turns out good and dev's like it, then they can turn it into something awesome.
But on a personal level, i don't want to make it sound like something that everyone will say "I'm gonna play this when it comes out" because that's only dependent on whether the dev's think it could lead off on a good story plot, and time line.
After all, their the ones who will be taking the gamble of making something happen.

It took me this long, but your right, my Grammar is terrible! I am not a literate at heart, i am more of a Mathematician in my own right. But i'd say from what i had to try and work out, that my IQ is not that great. (Well, it used to be above what i think it is now).

I appreciate your word's Reddehwow, i will take note of what i should say next time :)
Take care!

wait i'm confused

Is this a suggestion for what you want to see in Spiral Knights, or your own take on Spiral Knight lore that you plan to turn into a fan-game in the future?

If it's the former it doesn't make sense as we weren't here on cradle pre-crash. Like, zero knights. Only way that would work would be if cradle took our world into the creation of its clockworks, and I haven't seen that happen (although I would love it). If a "pre knight" were on cradle they wouldn't be an invader, as they're here much like most other beings in the clockworks.

If it's the latter then really let your creativity run rampant. No reason we should stop you from making something. :)

That's why everything's a

That's why everything's a mystery. What you don't makes you wonder "Why is this here, when it should not be".

It's an ideal to make people want to see what is behind such events, and why things turned out the way they are.

The question behind this whole thing is "What event's made the future and past possible?" it is not meant to make logical sense, and 'Pre Knight' is just a current name because 1: "Pre Knight is in the past, and this is prior to Knight's arriving on cradle" and 2: "His role played out in the past, and seemingly he is the only one known currently to be in the past".

Why would one Knight be located in the past? Possibly a hand full more.

The question's that you are asked, make you immersed in a game, because you want to find out more.
This is why i figured it would be a great idea, to start throwing things together, and simply put it, the fabric of time has been altered.
The total amount of Elevator rides goes from a maximum of 27, to 36. Why would this happen? What caused this?

No one... may ever know.

Just don't forget one thing. The mysterious power of the core!

Looks like you should start

Looks like you should start up your own company and give SK some competition. Or you could join their team and help make ideas a reality.

Hey, i love SK, and would

Hey, i love SK, and would love to help do so. But i am no professional, and i am still studying.
I have a lot of experience behind me with what ruins a game, and what can make it better. I also know, if they were to rebuild the SK engine in some way or another, they could better prepare for what the experiences was in the original engine. Your right, make ideas a reality.

I got a lot of drive to learn and create. And a strong point of view i have, is everyone's ideas count, but as the position i'd take, i need to make a choose on a logic which some people may not agree with, whether a idea would be implemented or not.
A idea can sound REALLY AWESOME! but it maybe a experience for the end game scenario. You should never jump from been nothing to ultra powerful without climbing a ladder of some sort. It's like say "I just started this game, and now it feels finished." Their are games like this and they were terrible. Artistically they may have looked good, but their was no logic calling it any more then a scenic view.

If i was to in some way jump on any development band wagon, i only have my basic level of skills. And that is almost worthless in comparisons to other developers. It took me about 5 day's to try and make a control script that the player could rotate to, and in comparisons to real development teams, and individual experts, it could have taken a fraction of the time.
The 5 days i spent, was trying to manually find a calculation that would work for the player rotation. Once i had coded my script the second time, i had almost achieved what i was trying. However the rotation for each quadrant (The screen divided into 4 pieces) was about 5* out, and looked wrong, not to mention it was really rough around the edges.
So i asked people, they said to use ray cast. I decided to do more research, and found some code that made everything work the way i wanted. I just had to adjust it to my application and it worked. I feel bad that i could not hone my manual mathematical skills to make it work. But i had to get it to work. To get the player to move in the direct i wanted took 3 days and that was coding it once.

Seriously, in comparisons to the experts, i pale in comparisons. The ideas maybe worth it, but the skills to offer are of a first year only just on the edge of finishing the coding subject.

The reason i would want to hone my skills, is to have the ability to do anything.

And if i did end up making my own company, i would still be interested in helping with other games that have that spark.
Spiral Knight's has a bright spark, and so much potential for growth. I really don't think some people understand why people dislike SK anymore.
I have seen the things people like and dislike about the game. and from my point of view. These thing can be altered to make the game better!
And it would be such a waste to let the accessory's in SK die. They had to around 25-75% somewhere their, no point in the game, other then to make one stand out among the crowd. Should people return to a new game, they expect something different. Where's if you say "The engine was rebuilt" Their is going to be less people returning, then approaching the new game.

The Logic:
Rebuilt engine: The player know's the mechanics of the game already, and while performance issues maybe fixed, they expect nothing to change mechanic wise, and levels to be the same or similar to before.

New Game: Something the player has no known knowledge about, and want's to delve deeper to see what lies beyond the 4th wall. They expect something different, and if it's a sequel to another game they know and love. They will be more curious then ever to see what's their. *I did not expect that i would be initially playing as another character then the one i created in the first level!*

I think you will understand and get the picture.

And as far as i am aware, i am among the top 5 in our class that is impressing our teachers for first year students.
I am very proud of what they have said, and their reaction to our work.
And were only 5 out of a unexpected class of about 33 students. *Was meant to be 20 per year as far as i am aware*

Once i actually make this all work, and look great, i might feel like i won't pale, but equal.
Until then, i am still growing up.

FYI: I write to much, so i have A LOT of growing up to do :P

Image of what's been done so far.

I won't be releasing any copy of this to the general public, if school does, that's what they do. But as far as i am aware they won't do that. If i get approached by Owner's in request to see work, i'd be happy to send what i have their way. But in no way, do i have anything worth their time as you have seen.

But i do however have one thing i can say about making SK more awesome. IF this became a reality, and a new game was made, i would suggest letting their be a few missions in the original game, that would transfer a player, and a selection of 5* only weapons and equipment other then that your wearing. Including potentially your (total CE count) or (only limited to 10,000) or (purchased CE within the month or over your players life time).

So many thing's not just awesome can and could be done. but limits make it possible to transfer a player over to another version of a game, without feeling like it's worthless to at-least go back.

We will just have to wait and see :)

Visuals of GUI

Well, i will be honest, progress is been made. And 100% certain this is something that will stay between myself and school as a (Game project) as it won't be actually distributed. But i believe it's okay to share work that's been done.

Video of Progress

I'd like to say this to the new owner's who actually have the game licenses and everything.
This game has so much more potential, and you guy's are awesome for what you did. So long as your economically able to sustain the game, and be aware that are massive part of the player base for years has been next to cut off from enjoying the gaming experience. You should consider the options for fixing the issues, and calling back those players who may have missed out on enjoying the game.
Spiral Knight's is the reason i am interested in learning to code to a higher level of skill that i might never achieve. Because of all the bugs with gates and LAG issues, i feel interested to solving these issues and fixing them in future.
I am not that advanced, but SK has been inspiration ever since the day those gates during a battle locked me out, and i was forced to spend 10 mist/CE because i could not regain access to the battle room after glitching through the gate. It was a painfully annoying bug at that point in time.
With the right tool's, you can regain the player base, and make people happy, and enjoy themselves again.

My project is a learning experience i feel happy with, because by trying to match bits and piece of art, i learn new skills and ways to deal with issues that arise.
I hope that if you see what i am doing, that you'd be interested in ideas behind what i am doing.
Their are elements that in the circumstances that they are required, they can help the player, even if in some places they are pointless.

I would like to see Spiral Knight's become a much more playable game for people who can't play, due to connection issues.
