Back to the beginning

When we first crashed down on cradle our main objective was to survive. But before that our objective was to find a new source of energy to save our home planet. We were told we were at war with the Morai... Who are they? Will we need to fight them again? Do we need to build a spaceship to go back and save our fellow kin? Do the core of this planet have anything to do with this?

What I am suggesting is a new long series of vanguard missions where we build a spaceship, and go back to save our home planet.
This would likely inclute:
- Figuring out a way to draw energy from the core. (A series of protect, defend and esscort missions. Possibly using turrets in a tower defence ish way)
- Building a spaceship! (Finding all the neccesary materials and so on. Maybe we need help from the gremlings?)
- Traveling back. (Do we get boarded by pirates? Maybe even Morai scouts? Can we control our spaceship in a solo mission?)
- Were back! (What do we meet? Is our planet under seage? Is anyone still alive? Can we defend it? Can we have new sorts of turrents for defencive mission with limited recources? How much recourses do our planet have left? Must we count our dead enemies in order to figure out how many recourses must be invested? How do we strike back? Can we infiltrate them? Do they have any bases we know of? Can we board they're spaceships? Will there be spaceship battles? If we can defend our home world.>/em> Will they figure out about cradle? Do they already know about it? How wast is they're empire? Should we strike back?)

The possabilities are endless! ^^
We need new vanguard content! What do you think of this?

More stuff

Reserved for smaller suggestions! ^^
If you feel you have something good, please add your own suggestions as well!

Suggestion 1
Lairs:
New shadow lair with previosly thought extinct dragon! Behold The Dragonlair! ^^

Suggestion 2
Mobs:

1: Volcanic plate monster! (Jagglypoof made this one up as a joke, but it sounds too awesome not to include! ^^)

2: Okay, this may sound a little crazy, but bear with me. (Fiend type enemy)
Imagine a large, stuffed, worn out teddybear with one red and one cursed eye. It will run after you, and normally bite or claw you.
Other attacks:
- Jumps at you from a short distance, wiggling its tail in the air a brief moment before jumping.
- Shoots a ray of cursed light in front of it(using its cursed eye) that curses any player hit with strong curse.
Defence:
- High HP.
- Is not delayed by being attacked.
- Is not pushed by shield or shield bash.

just entirely forgetting all of GH's restrictions and realistic limitations, this is what I want/what I think would be cool!! :D

an entire server wide event where all the knights have to collectively help each other farm the resources and recover hidden lost pieces of the ship, and source new ones from the core.

World of warcraft originally had an old scarab lord event where the entire server was essentially called to a war effort and contributing materials to the cause is what helped progress the story line for the entire server at once. Once they hit their goal the gates to a new raid instance opened, the first players to lead the questline were rewarded with glorious titles and mounts.

All of the unanswered questions of SK's lore and future could be answered during this event as you explore deeper into the clockworks, what other mysteries could be revealed as you dauntlessly delve to recover the spiral knights lost glory!

thennnnn ( still completely disregarding dev's limitations) once the ship is completed either A. gremlins blow it up. darn those pesky gremlins. B. we return to our homeworld, but are followed by the swarm! or stowaway gremlins! ( pesky gremlins).

a server wide event might be fun but it would also be fun as just vanguard missions if you want to do it privately even after the event (so those that miss it aren't just sad for the rest of their lives.)

Yes! But if we return home do all have to leave? Maybe some would like to stay, and find a home at cradle? We all have a home at haven after all. Could we find a way of stealing energy from the core withoutremoving or destroying it?

Having the gremlings and swarm following us into space would be genious! ^^
Grey haven have their restrictions at the moment, but if something like this could be a long time project that would be amazing! Love the idea of a huge one time event building the spaceship, as that would really give the game traction, but it should still be possible to do a set of vanguard missions related to it afterwards, so there's no hole in the missions storyline. :D

Its fun but completely unrealistic.

The chance of something like this coming out is basically 0%
You're basically proposing a whole expansion.

We need to find ways to make the game better without a lot of dev time.

Of course this is unrealistic at the moment. However Grey Haven is not Sega. Sega simply drained this game for whatever money they could get from it. If GH choose to improve opon this game, and it gains traction, something like this could become realistic. Granted they get the recourses to start such a project, it would give the game a lot of traction, publicity and fun! ^^

Unlike most threads this is not made to be realistic at the moment. It's made to give the devs ideas for new content, and to make a disscussion about what do we want from this game? What content would make this game more popular and fun to play? So... Whithout being realistic based on GH's current economic situation. What would you like to see?
Though everything can be explained in numbers, not everything revolves around numbers... This tread is just for fun! What fun new ideas, realistic and unrealistic alike, would you like to see implemented into the game? ^^

Eh

Plenty of reasons such a thing isn't too great.

Leaving Cradle leaves behind all the gameplay we have set up as it stands. We leave behind monster families, energy systems, crafting, heating, etc. We leave behind elevators, haven. We leave behind everything.

If you've continued the game and payed attention to the lore, our entire stay on Cradle knights all over have said they "felt like they belong here". It isn't until the 10-2 missions that we discover our true purpose on Cradle. I'd highly recommend reading over Dreams and Nightmare's final dialogue sequence again if you need confirmation on that.

That being said, a new level set pulled from Isora where we combat the Morai would be more than welcome. Cradle pulls various worlds together to create the clockworks, so it's not out of the question that it would pull our homeworld into its mechanical rotation. As it stands however, the Spiral Order and all of its members are now calling Cradle their "home".

Basically leaving Cradle goes against the story that's been built up to this point. However bringing new things to Cradle is never out of the question.

Leaving cradle and not using it again would be a very bad idea. Traveling on quests beyond cadle, fighting in spaceships, exploring new alien lifeforms, defending strongholds with the help of turrents and fighting the Morai to save our fellow kin! Would this be a bad Idea? ^^

The Idea for this was to be an expantion to the game as it is, not a replacement.

uh

The way you're putting it it sounds like a replacement.

This game is an MMORPG dungeon crawler. You want to make it a tower defense, space shooter, scout/exploration game as well. When you do everything in a game, you don't do anything well.

As it stands Spiral Knights does the whole dungeon crawler MMORPG bit really well. Countless suggestions to make it into an FPS have been rejected by forumers all over the ages, simply because it breaks the formula. I can assure you all of those people would agree another game set in the world of Spiral Knights would be amazing, however transforming our current game into that would prove troublesome.

According to our game lore, we have become the guardians of Cradle. It is up to us, the Spiral Knights, to keep the swarm at bay and protect the Sleeper. A continuation of this is necessary for the game, and has huge potential for content. At this point in the storyline we have abandoned our past - we are protectors now. The Morai wars are in the past, Cradle is our future. Should something happen to Cradle... Well, that could spawn a whole new game. I mean it did but the game got canceled.

So we have abandoned our kin back where we came from... O.O
We were blown out of the sky, but that's preatty sad... I feel like a traitor now... D:

As much as Cradle is a nice place that we should protect, it would also be nice to protect the other possibly nice place where we came from. That was our original intent of traveling here after all. This is mainly a suggestion for new vanguard missions. It would be nice to travel into space and fight the Morai! ^^
(Leaving our kin to fend by their own just feels wrong...)

Eh

I see what you're getting at, but from both a game and lore perspective that sounds like a meh idea.

To channel Midnight-Dj - not every story has a happy ending. In our case, we were stranded, however what we're doing on Cradle goes beyond just us. The swarm would continue to consume all of Cradle, eventually moving on to other parts of the universe. With an energy signal as powerful as what lines within the core, it wouldn't be very good if that energy were consumed entirely by the swarm now would it?

However I, like many others, am fascinated by Spiral Knights lore. One thing I would love to see would be a standalone game of a different genre that is single player or co-op (not MMORPG) that expands upon the Morai Wars. There's so much that could happen in such a game, I'm excited by the possibilities. Sadly I don't see the same for Spiral Knights expanding beyond Cradle - you'd separate the playerbase, you'd leave behind what made the game unique - basically you'd make an entirely new game. So I recommend, instead, to make an entirely new game. No restrictions when you do that.

An entirely new game... It's not a bad idea, but how would expanding the spiral knights universe seperate the players? Could you elaborate on that? ^^

Traveling back wouldn't need to make a happy ending to the Morai problem. It would accually be more interesting if it didn't.

Different world hubs

Originally, each subtown in Spiral Knights (Haven, Moorcroft, Emberlight) were a central hub for different levels of players. Tier 1 players would be in haven, tier 2 in moorcroft, etc. This was scrapped and now we all go to Haven instead.

Leaving Cradle, even for a bit, would create that divide. If your suggestion is that leaving Cradle becomes such a small thing it's equivalent to starting a clockworks lobby, well... That sort of kills enthusiasm about it. Additionally, what about inviting new players onto a ship to leave Cradle? They wouldn't understand why we're leaving the planet because rank missions hasn't told them yet. Meanwhile, a new player can end up in Vanaduke through the arcade, so that's a bit less of a problem.

Basically, from a gameplay aspect it's entirely unneeded (more of the same), and from a lore perspective, it's destructive.

An entirely new game has no limitations whatsoever, hence why it's a good choice for doing anything not on Cradle, but within the universe of Spiral Knights.

About that...

It would be cool to have a smaller base of operations you have to go to(The spaceship) before being able to activate any of these vanguard off world missions. Much like Moorcroft or Emberlight, just here you can choose where to go next, in comparison to having the clockworks choose for you(That is also an awesome feature btw ^^). This could alternatively be payed content as well, but it would be cooler as a part of the main lore.
This should NOT replace anything, or take the use of anything in existance, but rather be an addition to what currently is. Whith this there could come new areas, new enemies and occationally a few new missions here and there, without ruining or replacing anything on cradle. Rather than just going deeper(We have come as deep as we can...) something like this would allow us to explore further away as well. It's not fun just to defend what we have. We need something to move us into the future as well. This would simply allow the game to have more(slightly different) content. It should not overlap content that exist. Haven will always be our main base of operations. It's home...

IXNAY!

It is the same, if not worse than, a replacement.
It is like this because people can already be put into tier 3 and THIS would try to turn this game into a universe in one.
And if everyone were to be stranded on Isora, the Swarm would consume the universe, if not the omniverse. Not to mention, the Spiral Order would be rocketed to extinction on a 99.999999999999992% chance, with only a 00.000000000000001% chance of surviving AGAIN. The game would go extinct if this was not a game set. If it were one new game, than that game would absorb any chance of Spiral Knights going extinct to this. If it were the game we have, then this game would disintegrate over the course of quicker than it could ever do without major destruction.
