Interesting structure in grasping plateau

There are many odd structures in the grasping plateau, each more unsettling then the next, but there's a certain one that caught my attention the most.

Theres this 'altar' thing with a yellow circle in front of it and 3 graves. There are coloured candles on the grave, red, purple, yellow. It reminded me of something for a moment...then it struck me. red = elemental; purple = shadow; yellow = piercing. I was just guessing it was a weird coincidence, but just to make sure...I set off my fiery atomizer at the red one, because it deals elemental damage. And to my surprise, it started glowing. It looked like a small yellow portal thing. Of course you couldnt go in, so I tried 'activating' the purple one with my graviton bomb...I miss. Before I have time to load it again, the Apocrea comes so I have to run for my life. Every time I try to activate it again, he comes, like hes guarding it or something.

And also, I was just wondering about that yellow obsidian pillar locked in a room. Some floors I see it with no key, some floors I see a key with no lock. Does it actually do anything?

I'm a Wizard

...guess you'll have to wait for another person to attempt to shoot the graves up then.

Puzzles

The Plateau is full of various different puzzles you have to solve. The one you're talking about has a counterpart structure, with three candles sat around a pillar at varying heights, which depict the order you want to "activate" the different parts on the altar structure. To trigger each colored part, you don't need to use weapons or anything. Instead, you can just walk up to each glowing segment. If it's the correct one, it'll glow up, like that portal you described. If it's activated in the wrong order, you take damage.

For levels with a locked room and no key, you have to find special structures, and trigger them to spawn a key. I can recall two different types. For one, you need to walk along a glowing blue (or purple?) line, around an obelisk. Doing so would spawn a key, as well as some Devilites. There's also another instance where there's two candles, one of them being unlit. You'll have to run around the level some more, to find a torch that holds respawning embers, to light the second candle.

I would highly recommend you do these puzzles. Completing them gives you a few Sigils, but they also have a chance of giving one of the Apocrean materials you need for the event-weapons.
