I did some digging around at Spiralspy's SK blog(spiral.onyxbits.de), and I found this amusing collection of posts about sprite food and what he thinks of it.
TLDR: 4000 is BAD we should move to 3219023192310841796978214926179821812461278 cr apiece

[seerus business] Pet food and pricing: What do YOU think?
Sprites are not pets. Monster pockets are pets. Sprites are minions.
Monster pockets are not pets. Sprites are pets. Monster pockets are accessories.
Since we have Mr. Technical in here, let me go ahead and point to the internal names of battle sprites.
I don't know about you but it seems pretty clear that battle sprites are pets.
@Batabii
That would be the Spiraltail. Drakon reskin we got for monkey's new year.
^comments like that are why we need a report button. And/or ignore.
Ok Batabii
Of the 9 comments in this thread, the first 3 are vaguely on topic. You then come on and tell us that they are sprites and not pets, and the comments that follow have completely abandoned the discussion and gone to semantics. Technically I suppose it's not petfood or spritefood but "power stars" or whatever else they named the actual materials.
Regardless, this is known as "derailing a thread". I'm not even hating on it just acknowledging it because it's like your specialty. It's why we love you, just like we love the jelly king because of how fun his run is. The other day in the discord channel we saw you and we're like BATABII IS BACK it was kind of touching. I hate saying things like this about rules and whatever. We should just talk about the game or whatever and not be so hostile. So I'll do that.

The deal with food fed to battle sprites is that it's still subject to the laws of supply and demand. Logically it would make sense for the cost to be higher than twice that of the cheapest material capable of making them, but this is hardly the case as there are other reasons to sell as people have pointed out. In the end you decide the reason to sell, but if it's profit then you can run the basic math of 2x material and price accordingly, or just sell your materials.
@boneblinder spoken like someone who has never actually gotten his first ult yet.
Aww, look! Everyone's fighting each other!
...no, this is not cute. This is absolutely terrible. All of you need to...
the market price is about supply and demand. if supply is higher than demand, price will lower until demand rises enough to counteract supply.
a lot of people have 5* items and minerals they dont need, so they make sprite food (easier to sell than normal 5* mats) and sell it for a little profit on the side.
