Yes, this again, more battlesprites.
Well one more battlesprite.
And I'm not putting way too much thought in it and leaving a lot to suggestion, and if people have good suggestions I might add them to this post, I don't know.
As the title said, it's a loose suggestion.
Anyway, to the actual thing.
(Also, I just realised that battlesprite isn't one word, forgive me)

This is a thing. What is this thing? It's a battle sprite. It's, in fact the original battle sprite, before they were lost in the clockworks and morphed. One could call it the proto-sprite.

I think you see where I'm going with this. Wouldn't you want to have that sprite after you? If you said no you're clearly lying. Also, it is already modeled in the game, so design is already solved.

And here's where this suggestion is becoming rather loose.

What attacks would it have?
I don't know. Since (ahem, SPOILERS) Parma uses this sprite to talk to you through in Dreams and Nightmares (ahem, SPOILERS ARE DONE NOW), maybe some distracting by causing sounds and agroing mobs at somewhere else than you? Maybe detecting cloaked enemies, wouldn't that be a great niche use? I don't know.

What would it eat?
I don't know, whatever fits.

And how would it be incorporated into the game?
Now this is a big one. Because even if you've got the best idea of a sprite it needs to be incorporated into the game in a good way, or else it falls flat. There are two subquestions to that. The questions in fact are "How is it introduced?" and "How will it affect players who have picked their sprite already?". And I don't know. Since it is basically the proto-sprite, it could be introduced in the beginning of one of the existing sprite missions, and then be switched out for another when you arrive at the new sprite's destination. But I don't know, I might make something bigger and less chaotic about that in particular sometime later on.

Anyway, that was a chaotic text to read, so to summarize I will make a nice list explaining my suggestion. If others build upon this in this thread, this is where those ideas will appear.

  • Suggestion: Battle Sprite
  • Appearence: This
  • Attacks:
    Skill 1: Small buff
    Skill 2: Status shield(?)
Skill 3: You can pick one extra sprite perk (This skill is passive)
  • Sprite food: Whatever makes sense
  • Incorporation: Possibly the first one to be tried by new players

How do we find said Sprite though? All the normal sprites (I call them all Scouts) were dropped into the Clockworks and turned into dragons, cats, and ghosts.

I'm getting worse and worse at funny subject lines

Well, if I recall correctly some of the (yeah, let's call them scouts), were salvaged. For example, Morlin, the biotech who explains the missions centered around sprites, has one of his own. I also think there are some scattered around in the Lab, so they weren't completely lost.
This is the reason to why I suggested them being introduced first, because the they are already available.

This would actually be my favourite sprite

give it no abilities except for perhaps maybe one which provides an active buff, then allow it to have two different sprite perks, like healthy boost and swift steps for example (but not two of the same perk). Then perhaps the ability to change its colour and maybe even add accessories would be cool so you could make it crimson with a hacked aura looking thing and plasma wings to look like parma's sprite, or do other things to make it suite whatever you want.

Also, the sprite colour, and sprite accessories would be equippable and un-equippable allowing them to be easily changed.

Sprite accessories is a suggestion waiting to happen!

I believe that the glowy parts of the scouts are already prismatic by deafult. As the subject line says, sprite customization should absolutely be a suggestion on its own. Alternatively plasma wings and hacked aura could be one of the ultimate morphs.
Actually, this could be a very supporty sprite. I like your idea of trading a skill for an extra perk, but I think it needs to have some activated skills as well, or else it becomes like a trinket. What do you think of the other skills providing an attack boost and a status effect shield respectively?

This leaves the question of what ultimate variants especially the extra perk skill should have though . . .

Well, I think it should have

Well, I think it should have one active ability, one that isn't an attack one. Maybe it could have a basic attack, sorta like a protogun charge. I think for ultimate morphs it doesn't change much, because if its something that you'd want to customize, you wouldn't want it to have some wierd unchangable shape.

Why not normal abilities?

Personally I think it could have normal abilities, like the other sprites.
My setup looks like this:
1: Rocket barrage - similar to the autogun's charge attack, stuns the enemies
2: Purification - removes status effects from players in an area and gives immunity to everything for a few seconds
3: Shockwave - knocks all enemies back around the player and inflicts shock debuff

Customizable sprite?

This may seem too over the top, but perhaps after a certain point of the game there could be a customizable proto sprite that would have a random pool of abilities to choose from (once chosen, it will be its ability forever), when it evolves, you will have access to a better pool of abilities for its second ability, and then its third evlolution, same thing, but at its last evolution you can reset it.
or it could be a sprite that can equip weapons, like its first stage it can only equip 0 star gear, 2nd stage, 1 star gear, 3rd stage, 2 star gear, but thats it. When you level it and it gives a skill point you can increase its AI by 3 ways: aggresive, protective, or chaotic. Aggresive charges forward to enemies, protective tries to stay close to you and protect you (and charges attacks more often and if holding a shield, will try to tank incoming projectiles), chaotic just makes the AI very unpredictable (but has a movement/attack speed buff). if its holding a bomb it will only charge, if its holding a shield, enemies might target it instead. with no AI skill pints invested, it just lingers beside you.

or it could just be a floating mini drone that shoots enemies nearby.
