It keeps happening!

Hello, I'm here again. And I'm back for the same reason I was here last time

Namely, my laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad T410, a little less than a year old at the moment) suffers unexpected sudden shutdowns most of the time when I'm playing this game.

I've already tried reinstalling my Java and that hasn't put even a dent in the problem (or did I do it wrong!? I'm a bit confused because I seem to have both 32bit and 64bit versions). I was suggested that it might be a problem with my laptop overheating but gee, doesn't it seem weird it tends to overheat a lot when playing THIS game? I've played two or three MMOs in the past without this problem at all. Or at least, not with the frequency it happens with when I'm playing SK.

My Windows 7 is up to date and so is my antivirus and stuff...

I've run defrag and scandisk and I've tried closing all unwanted processes and programs right before I start playing.

I'm not sure what is happening here, especially since there's no fixed condition as to when and where I am in the game and what the heck I'm doing when my PC suddenly [craps] all over me. Maybe I've messed up my laptop six ways from Sunday and I can't tell, since there are a few hiccups here and there sometimes and rare occasions when it freezes up completely right after I turn the thing on.

But I could be wandering in Haven, deciding what to do in a terminal, right in the middle of arena battles, trying to change my weapon/armor selection when all of a sudden, everything slows down, comes to a total halt and BAM! I have to turn my laptop on again.

I'm currently in Pakistan and the situation with power supply and iffy internet connections (and when the former is down sometimes the latter is affected) that tend to promise much more than they end up delivering (I have a 2MBps DSL and sometimes it feels like a LOT less) might have a bearing on this, except it happened when I was studying in Singapore too.

Can someone help? I'm getting tired of this. I'm wasting ME this way and I probably look like a massive tool to people I'm trying to play with, and I lost two Snarbolax runs right before entering the lair in part because of this sudden shutdown problem.

They don't sound like...

They don't sound like... anything? They operate the same in the game or out of it

Mind you it happens even when I use a cooling pad but I'm not sure on how effective the pad actually is in cooling.

It sounds like a heating

It sounds like a heating problem to me as well. If you can elevate your laptop or, even better, keep it on a metal or glass surface, it may help a lot. Also, if you use it in dusty places, you may have a buildup of dust in the vents. Blow int them otu with compressed air should see a puff of dust and perhaps fix your problem.

You weren't using it on your lap, right? I've had people complain that their laptop makes their lap too hot, so they put it on a pillow. >.>

dust? I'll need to look into

dust? I'll need to look into that, actually.

I was playing it on a table. I don't know if tablecloths cause the same problem as a pillow or my lap, but like I said, this sometimes happens even when I've placed it on a cooling pad.
