I've been thinking about good ways to deliver little snippets of lore. I think I'd like to see occasional friendly mobs you could encounter during your dungeon crawling. I think they'd go nicely in the side rooms with treasure boxes and no mobs. They could recite a line or two of story. That way, part of the random nature of dungeons would be randomly discovering more of the story.

There already are recon
There already are recon modules that tell a little bit of story.
(One that tells about jellies guarding grass, another that talks about a knight semi-taming a jelly with food)
Those are the only two I've seen, but I can see that being expanded to give a wider range of other knights explorations at different depths giving insight into the nature of the clockworks.
