Pre-Note: Before you guys read this I'd like to say that I only just started getting myself back into Spiral Knights after a year or two of not playing. So keep it in mind that I'm not 100% caught up with everything. Also everything is based on my understanding of the steam workshop which in all honesty I'm not extremely familiar with. On that note lets get into this.
So Spiral Knights was bought over by Grey Havens to keep the games and community alive and happy. What I've read around in the forums, is that they will continue to try and update the game with new content however its going to be difficult due to the fact they're a very small team. So I was thinking, why not start up a steam workshop for this game? People would be able to put up things like models (armor, monsters, and weapons) , tile textures, and maybe even maps/levels that would then be voted on by the community and approved of by Grey Havens to be put into the game. I'm sure that the community of people who adore this game would be willing to do this sort of stuff free of charge. With this Grey Havens wouldn't have to worry as much about their budget and may able to put more work into other parts of development.
This is just a suggestion and i'll say this again, I don't have much knowledge of how steam workshop works but I think this would definitely that would keep the community "alive and happy."

This idea is thrown around a looot, especially the level editor bit.
But I also wanted to say that it shouldn't really be limited to the Steam workshop, only having [insert percentage here] players participating over Steam and having the rest miss out just because they played it via web and whatnot.
But yes, ideas like this show up quite frequently. Doesn't make them uninteresting, though.
