Needing a Spiral Spy environmental animation explanation!

So I just found out what Spiral Spy actually is yesterday, and without hesitation I downloaded it. It's really fun to mess around with, but I ran into some mud.
I found tutorials and threads on making and saving files, and basically went like this.
1. Change colorization, helmet and armor Parameters to Choice.
2. Go to edit, save in the right folder.
But when I try to follow instructions, specifically change everything to Choice, it just saves the gray Knight. What's up with that?
And in the video tutorials, it shows people putting in all the armor, weapons and such through the same window where the Parameters are, but in an Attachments section. I don't have Attachments anywhere!
I've looked around on the forums and there's no thread that I saw covering this, and no tutorials. Did I mess something up? Please help!
(Also, if this needs to be moved just say so.)

...Thank you so much for trying to help me, but I've already looked at all of them except for the background one. It was useful but it wasn't what I was looking for, thanks anyway.
But I got my dad to look into the issue (The computer super wizard of my house ^-^) and he discovered that there was a ton of errors! Like if you go to Edit, and there's error text at the bottom. If you click "show" it shows all the errors.
What does this mean? Is Spiral Spy coding broken or something? I feel so frustrated that I can't do anything to fix it!

a lot of the errors are from various sounds. spiralspy doesnt play sounds, but it tries. and every time it tries, it gives an error message.

Oh.
Okay.
EDIT: My dad declared that he has no idea how to fix this and I'm SO STINKIN MAD! Can someone else PLEASE help me? I was so elated to get this program, and this ridiculous problem is dampening my spirits. Should I just contact the creator or something?

Spiral Spy is a third party thingygumwhat. I don't use it myself but if it isn't working potentially it's not working in its current form, or when you load a saved file you're loading the default knight? I'm not sure.
Really the only way to learn it is to derp around with it long enough to understand it. You can try to contact the creator but I wouldn't expect any special treatment, but they might be happy to try to fix anything that is broken in the program, or potentially point you towards a better tutorial.

Maybe I found something...?
Just took your (Fangel's) advice, and I played around. Well, I opened a file through the Config that says model.dat, for the actual model that's pops onto your screen when you open SpiralSpy. I saved a new helmet on it, then got back to the model.dat after closing and reopening SpiralSpy. I half-panicked when I saw what I'd done had changed the model.dat (I fixed it though) but could that mean something? Like the model.dat is connected to the file I'd modified in some way?
I'm trying to redo the mistake to see if it's not some weird thing that happened, and it'll happen every time...but it's not working...

Hmm
I'd assume then that you want to save a model.dat, but in the long run it's probably better to contact someone with large amounts of experience in Spiral Spy as they'll get you what you need. If push comes to shove you can uninstall the program then reinstall it to get it to a clean state if it does end up breaking anything.

Although I thought that model.dat shouldn't be messed with? I've heard that a lot through tutorials and other threads on these forums, since it'll mess up your Knight ingame.
But, thank you for your help. :) Would you happen to know/be able to name anyone who's still around and experienced?
EDIT (Something else?): Huh...I looked at SpiralSpy's properties, and it says that it may be blocked because it came from another computer. I wonder if it's affecting files I make from it.

Well as long as you have a backup made then any change you make will be recoverable. Again I'm not experienced with the program at all so if other places say "don't touch the thing" it's probably safer to not touch the thing.

I know solotron is heavily versed with spiral spy, but I am not sure of anyone else off the top of my head who's delved deep into spiral spy and could help troubleshoot. I'm sure there's quite a few people just... I don't know them by name.

I think Solotron left Spiral Knights, but I'm not sure. He made some YouTube video a couple months ago, and in the description he made it sound like he was quitting Spiral Knights permanently. He hasn't done anything since then.
But if he's still around, hopefully I can find him. (I feel like I've seen him hanging around Haven in the past before, but maybe that was someone else. I only know one other person who wears goggles with a Charged Quicksilver helm.)

Just remembered another name - Hrpb. Don't know how active they are but they might help. Solotron is still a cool cat and shows up occasionally in game, but their youtube presence is whatever they make of it.

Now I feel really stupid...but...
I FIXED IT!!!! YES!
So apparently I was following outdated tutorials, and I was dumb enough to skip over the one that actually helped me. Solotron's 1.5 tutorial update fixed my problem, and now I can delve into the world of Knight animation. ^-^ SO HAPPY!!!
But I may still use this for any questions I have.
For one- how do you change the eye personal color through the "Edi- oh. Nevermind, got it. XD
