so darkfang shields will now be a rare drop again. I really hope they made it like a 0.01% probability so that we wont hav everyone running around with it. Will be interesting to see how long it takes for the first new df shield to be found. sry for those who spent piles of energy on one.
Dark Fang shields have always been obtainable :p where did you hear this?

I think the original source of the shields were from loot boxes in decon zones?
Except im pretty sure they havent been. if they were possible to get someone would have found one. They probably got removed with the addition of battle sprites, just like all other drops. When item drops were added back in they might not have put df shield back into rotation.

Some shields were found in fsc too. gear dropping from minions at all is a new thing (except for the costumes/accessories from rare monsters and stone tortoise from tortodrones back in the old days)
Well this is exciting. I actually really like this change - it makes hunting gremlins and their thwackers worthwhile.
Just like the slime coins made us seek out slimes, this change makes us seek out thwackers. Before battle sprites we had to seek out certain monsters for their materials, but now we're seeing more reasons to expand and fight individual monsters and monster families for different reasons. It's a nice change, pulls away from the "FSC only" grind that seems to dominate the end-game.
Ask Kingtinkinzar, he has obtained one, and even gotten confirmation that DF shields are still obtainable from a GM. If you are talking about shields dropping from Enemies (DF thwackers) then this IS new information as the shields used to drop from red treasure boxes in stratum 6 gremlin/fire/shock levels.
Tink got his from a quilting friend...I wouldn't take his word as the end-all-be-all for how to get one.
im pretty sure king got the shield from someone else and it was an old existing one. new df shields havent dropped in forever

ye i got mine from a friend thats no secret BUT i do have confirmation that dfs's dropped before, Atalanta herself told me when she visited our guild hall (i have no screenshot of when she said it but i have These )

Edit 2: nobody said they didnt drop from boxes,... the post refers too the shield now dropping from gremlins itself TOO (this is new and i'm 100% sure about it. i did my research and i did more then my fair share of hunting decon zones on depth 24-28 even made search parties and got my guild too fight for the cause!)
This is going to be like bodr farming, but with gremlins, better work on that obsidian edge UV
its a nice touch though, theyre still probably rare to the point of not dropping prices, but it gives players hope (even if its near impossible, humans love knowing theres a chance)
Is it any Darkfang Thwacker on any level or is it only Darkfang Thwackers in Deconstruction Zones?
how could we know, raggy? nobody explained it, just says it drops from thwackers now.

Also, does Normal, Advanced and Elite affect the drop rate?
Seems to be all tier 3 gremlin thwackers can drop the shield. That should include the darkfang thwackers that spawn in other areas, such as the tier + 1 thwacker that spawns in OCH's prison area, however I can't be sure unless it happens.
i was told it did... but im not sure on this... at least from boxes, it would make sense tho since elite gives better rewards but as for enemies dropping gear it doesnt matter for example the mewkats have an equal chance of dropping trinks SO IVE HEARD not entirely sure tho
I always play on elite because more money but if it's any indicator I've run into something like 20 love puppies in my Spiral Knights lifetime and have found 5 true love lockets. I'd assume elite = higher chance, even if it's just half a percent.
@Uberer-Alt fyi only 1 shield dropped from a vanabox... sounds like a bug to me.

I've run into maybe 30 or 40 love puppies, and all I got was one 2-star heart trinket. :(
Most of mine have been since the battle sprite update, and I consistently run tier 3 of the clockworks.
Funny thing is I found two of them while farming for books of dark rituals, and subsequently cursed the RNG gods for taunting me with love instead of reading material.
GM statements while OOO was in charge cannot possibly be considered credible. A GM saying Darkfangs could still drop prior to this update proves nothing, I wouldn't settle for less than a screenshot showing the new UI and a clear DFS drop a concrete evidence it was still available then. Even if the shields were scarce back when they would still drop, we'd hear every now and then of a new one cropping up. It's not been the case for 3 years now, it can't have gone that long without a drop unless it wasn't possible anymore.
im guessing it should work like black kats where any thwacker can drop them (as the post implied all, not restricting to decon zones), so you could use missions with clockwork tunnels, but as with csks, decon zones are preferable
elite might not affect it, but better safe than sorry with that, as it does increase droprates for anything else and you might as well get the extra crowns from it

Keep in mind that all equipment drops were nerfed to near nothing, and darkfang shields were rare within that category, with a possible level restriction (mostly decon zones, I think there were a couple in in cw tunnels and one in fsc), so there is a good chance they were just too rare
GMs also didnt lie to us, they just wouldn't talk, so I wouldn't call them untrustworthy for that
I don't know the general price for DFS, because the owners usually trade them for free(or so I heard), so how much would one cost? Not that I think that I'm destined to find one(because I did on my first account).
Ive heard 48milcr and 453kce, but people usually either keep them (zincamania) or give them away to someone for free when they quit (how kintinkinzar got his), your only real chance of getting one is probably just farming now that we know they can drop

I'm a bit late to the party because I've been busy with IRL stuff.. but anyaway..
This is amazing and I love it. Darkfang being out of the game has disheartened so many players and now that it's back it helps a lot more than just my reasons to farm. Where do you find thwackers? Deconstruction zone except the fire decon zone.. so now instead of being a dead level that gives next to no loot it's a beautiful level that can give darkfang shields, and even if you already have one you can sell any extras you find. It only effects tier 3, but tier 2 at least has valuable orb drops and some minor puzzle to solve and players haven't seen it a thousand times yet.
The one thing I'd change about this is the other gremlin items that no one loves. I'd remove their recipes from the game and make them each drop only- deconstructor, wrench wand and thwack hammer. Optimally they'd still have rare recipes that upgrade them to 5* so that they're not just stuck being awful but making them rare and valuable would be a pretty swell start.
If I understand correctly, Darkfang Shield is completely outclassed by Grey Owlite Shield, which is respected but common and not adored.
Isn't all of the interest in Darkfang Shield because of its rarity? And now its rarity is going away?
I wonder how rare it's going to be. If Darkfang becomes really common, then in one year it will be to shields what Winmillion is to swords.
If they keep the drop rate obnoxiously low, then it won't be too much of a difference. Just a few more Darkfang Shields.
I've been told of 3 DFS already. So I would say the drop is .5-1% which is disgustingly high
I had a pretty good time with my winmillion earlier...... and I really don't think I would have been better off with something else.
If i get 1-2 items(armor, weps) from boxes per year, appearing of DFS doesn't make any sense.
Remember when I barged in your arsenal and stole your most of your swag? Now I'm back to mug your employees. Expect a few more visits.
I agree with Bopp why is the Dark Fang Shield such a big deal when the Grey Owlite Shield (which is better) is one of the most common and easily acquired shields in the game. If all people want it for is for its rarity then they should have kept it like it was or they shouldn't raise it so high that 20% of the people will have one by the end of the year.
I just don't get why people want it so much when a better shield is one of the easiest to get

For some reason I expected someone to post a DFS here in the 9 hours that I was sleeping.
Those of you concerned about the DFS rarity are vastly overestimating the drop rates. The fact that none have been posted in this thread should be evidence towards that. It will remain a big deal, and only for the sake of being rare, which is fine and acceptable.
Considering how rare equipment drops are currently I doubt it'll drop too much in price.
