When failing a forge attempt, set the amount of heat held to zero instead of destroying the fire crystals.

Lets go with the following odds of succeeding-

1x = 15% success chance = heat every weapon 6-7 times = 151 rads total
2x = 40% success rate = heat every weapon 2-3 times = 302 rads total
3x = 100% success rate = heat every weapon once = 453 rads total

Just think of how the players would react to this! They hold onto their fire crystals and use 1x until they get more fire crystals and then they move on up, making their fire crystal usage scale accordingly, no more being locked out of T3, because hey, enough t2 runs will net you a cheap level up.. but all of that still takes time and effort, just in a different, friendlier way.

You can still buy heat amplifiers and radiants from the shop, and those things still speed you up drastically because you're going from 1x to 3x or maybe you're just doing a lot more 1x on a lot more items, who knows. Forge prize box etc. could still exist as well with this, as they sweeten the deal.

If you're going to do anything about the forge or radiant fire crystals I think this might be the way to do it.

Well, it would give a use to heat amplifiers aside from forcing one to get fire crystals faster

Yes. This is brilliant. I'm sick of seeing all of my weapons stuck at heat level 7 or 8 because I can't get the impossible amount of Radiants they're asking for that guarantees I won't have to do two or three more FSC/arena runs just to have a chance to try again.

Or, in a perfect world, they could just get rid of the Forge and Alchemy Orbs completely, but, this works too.

algorithms are the solutions to all problems.

that's a really good idea fehz. it makes the other forge options viable and it lenghtens play time. it also doesn't make you feel like you lost all your progress when you fail a forge attempt, since heat isn't so hard to farm as fire crystals.

oh

Here I was judging the post by it's title.

It is actually a good idea. Makes heat the "currency". Heat is super easy to get but the annoying part of forging isn't heating, it's having fire crystals poof out of existence because RNG says "no". Still makes players farm for radiants, shinings, etc. but without the overly annoying grinding aspect.

With this change, you could make more expensive routes still give nice rewards at higher intervals. Players would use the highest amount until they can't anymore, then use the lowest amount. This makes the first few levels of an item speed by but later levels go by much slower - but if you farm for more fire crystals then it's about the same pace as before.

Basically, similar time investment with much less heartbreak. I dig it.

Yea I tend to be a bit much on the cynicism with the title. You literally can't bring up these topics without it becoming awful and political and no one but us wants to go there, so I have my doubts on this ever being seen. I should probably re-title this.

To talk a bit more, the 15/40/100 split would only be for 5* gear because all other tiers are kind of whatever. I'd probably go something like-

30%/50%/100% for 4*
45%/70%/100% for 3*
60%/80%/100% for 2*

Just because that would facilitate how much more common those crystal types are. It's far easier to not take risks on it but if you wanted to you should be able, especially if you wanted to play and craft a lot.

Ah

Really the percentages could remain due to the fact the worst thing about radiants is losing them since they're so hard to get. With other crystal types it's not nearly as hard since you have designated farming areas.

But the higher percent chances on lower crystals also encourages just using the highest amount of crystals. That'd be nice as well, mostly because we have no proper "fire crystal sink" in the game yet.
Say I just gave myself an unrelated idea...

I see no point in doing

I see no point in doing anything but 100%, why gamble with the already hard to get Radiants? You will only end up spending more eventually.

^Exactly, Tablechair. With this you wouldn't be gambling with the radiant crystals, you would be gambling with just heat... which would still be poor to lose at but wouldn't really hurt that much.
