We all have those extra Minerals Moonstone and Valestone, don't we? As far as I know we haven't been introduced to any new uses for them.
I'll make something clear. This is still a pretty fresh idea in my head. I just thought I could share this, cause I still haven't found any new use. I'll try answering the questions that follow the best I can, and make some of my own questions at the bottom of the post.
This suggestion would entail adding two new Minerals, noted by the colours Magenta and Cyan. We'll name them Rubi and Skystone for reference.
Mineral Fusion
- Obviously, fusion is combining two or more things together to form a new item. In this case, Minerals; I can combine a Rubi and Skystone to make a Moonstone.
Mineral Fission
- Fission is breaking an element into another or more elements. In this case, Minerals; breaking a unit of Moonstone would give me a unit of Luminite.
The colour table would be as follows:
Crimsonite
FUSION : Luminite and Rubi
FISSION: Skyestone
Moonstone
FUSION : Rubi and Skystone
FISSION: Luminite
Luminite
FUSION : Valestone and Crimsonite
FISSION: Moonstone
Valestone
FUSION : Luminite and Rubi
FISSION: Rubi
Skystone
FUSION : Valestone and Moonstone
FISSION: Crimsonite
Rubi
FUSION : Crimsonite and Moonstone
FISSION: Valestone
But what about Dark Matter? He'll have different combinations:
FUSION :
- Crimsonite, Rubi and Luminite would create Dark Matter [CRL]
- Rubi, Moonstone, Skystone would create Dark Matter [RMS]
- Skystone, Valestone, Luminite would create Dark Matter [SVL]
FISSION :
- Dark Matter [CRL] would split into Moonstone, Skystone and Valestone
- Dark Matter [RMS] would split into Crimsonite, Valestone and Luminite
- Dark Matter [SVL] would split into Crimsonite, Moonstone and Rubi
I originally had planned for fission results to be three units of their respective Minerals. So a Moonstone fission would result in three units of Luminite. This was really overpowered so I changed the equivalence to one unit.
I would, er, appreciate some help in fleshing this out more. I really think we could rework the Mineral system; give the currently unused Minerals some use. I feel that the system I've proposed is a little too unbalanced.
What reason do we have to have the new minerals? It seems it allows you to get certain minerals so that all minerals stop being useless, however you still have the problem of players just grabbing whatever mineral they need and ignoring the rest.
I'd rather we get a better use for minerals before we start adding more - but on top of that, perhaps we could revisit the purpose of minerals?
As it stands, minerals used to determine stratum theme. Different combinations of minerals caused different themes. With new minerals introduced, this could be the start of adding new themes into the game (monster families, statuses, etc). However, introducing two new minerals means our mineral combinations rocket up from 10 possibilities to 21!
Now personally I would think about adding rock salt as a mineral (white mineral) and give it another name that sounds more mineral-ish. This reduces the combinations from 21 to 15. Under this change you can still have fusion and fission, just with less combinations in general.
From there we can make 5 new themes. Ideas off the top of my head include: curse, sleep, morai (clockworks starts taking stuff from isora!), swarm, non-themed (IE can be any level type), statusless, stun.
