I went on steam today to check out the new armor that steam users were supposed to get, however, I couldn't find the game even after searching the website. So I clicked the link on the main page of Spiral Knights and it told me that the game wasn't available in my region (china). I'm very confused as to why this is. Will it change soon? Will I miss out on the promotion? Could somebody please explain this? I know plenty of other Sk players in china who are also very confused and mad about this.
Can't access Spiral Knights on Steam in China?
Taiwan has the same issue. I'll need to ask friends in New Zealand, the Phillipines, and Australia to see if Oceania is entirely blocked off.
There are Australian players, but because of the distance to the servers, they suffer a certain amount of lag that gives them play challenges. China would be even worse.
More likely is that there is some bureaucratic hurdle for selling software in China. Whether that actually stops Three Rings from making the game available or just gives them a financial incentive not to make it available, I don't know.
There's some funny region locking going on with Steam. They seem to still be sorting this out.
... realize that you can run the game directly from a browser, right? And barring that, OOO also offers a downloadable client. Might have to wait until next week for Steam and non-Steam accounts to be integrated, though.
I'm in the Philippines and I can access the game from browser/desktop. Dunno bout steam.
Uh I would have to say it is probably the Chinese government doing this..they are pretty notorious for not wanting people to see things. Probably just the fact there is open discussion on the game, who knows.
