Carbon based error!
Rather than shooting spines by flicking it's tail, it falls on its face, launching tremor-ridges.
Rather than digging, it jumps in the air and drops...things that are brown. Rocks. Brown rocks. Yes, carbon-based beings don't like the smell of the other kind of brown thing.
The bell wakes it up, making it conscious that it's getting attacked.
While it's asleep, it slowly heals.
