Hey guys Lexdray here.

I would always love to get into the pvp scene when playing spiral knights, but there is one problem. I connect from Australia, and there are no servers there, and it is a real problem, not only in pvp, but in normal gameplay. Shield delays, getting hit from far away. It's really annoying, but I just have to accept that, but the worst case is in pvp. God, it is horrible. People hitting me from far away. I can't even HIT anyone sometimes as it can get that bad. It really feels like a big part of this game has been taken away from me from my ping from the country i'm living in, and don't let me wrong, I have really good wifi. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? Thanks

The best Australian player

The best Australian player was Fayeth. Even with triple max skolver and asi VH, his best striker dmg was only 15kish. He was the best bomber though. So bombing could be the way to go.

False lol.

Funnybunny is unarguably the best Australian player to have played with and without AT and can pull out 20k's if he cared enough. He was also very cap oriented with decent cap/dmg avg output per game. Fayeth's bombing style lacks reliability since the style he plays requires high top tier polaris/AT spammers on his team while he spams bombs on one point for the entire game. Bunny, most cases he plays for the fun and trolls his heart out and still manages to get top damage. And his UVs were pretty mediocre from what I remember. He did gunning, melee and hybrid. He's on par with USA top tier players with his aussie ping.

Mercuryshade from my guild hit 26k last week, from Australia. I've hit 25k myself from Asia back in 2012 when I was in Jempire.

Prediction is the thing, you gotta predict where they will go and swing accordingly. You will eventually get a feel of just how much delay there. Playing like this is difficult though, when you are up against the good players you are pretty much bound to loose as they much more unpredictable.

Best bet, bomber.

@NebriumAhh, I only remember

@Nebrium

Ahh, I only remember playing FunnyBunnys when I initiated the famous Polaris-only matches. His spamming abilites were quite impressive. I must admit, I did not know he was Australian, he played very well normally. You must be right then, your memory of the game is probably way better than mine, I can barely name all of the weapons and armor anymore. Good stuff

@Enclave

Yup, prediction is key. I would go so far as to say that as long as your ping is constant, adapting ahould be easy.

BOMBSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Go bombs, don't look back, don't listen to Nebrium he hates me, find another player who shares his opinion if you can, you won't:3 Bombing is both fun and requires a lot less effort than going striker. Although if you do decide to go striker, it's harder than playing Dark Souls blind. Hell l'll even come on now and bomb in a match for you to see where l don't have a team of 'polaris and at spammers'. LONG LIVE JEMPIRE THO<3 Whatever you do, don't use at, coming from Australia, it will basically guarentee you never land a hit, because our latency is so bad, at always aims at the the position your target was 1-2 seconds ago. Nebrium doesn't know what l did or didn't do, he's just bias against me matey. Striker is honestly just too hard, it requires you to be better at predicting than if you go with the route of a bomber, which allows for much more lenient timing. I'd be willing to teach you bombing if you decide to do so.

Just get yourself a typical striker set (toothpick/Sealed Sword line) and practice by playing more. Try playing strategically to win the game rather than win fights, you'll get more gratification. You'll also have to live with the fact that you won't ever be on par with people with the same gear and better ping, but at least you'll be able to do something other than be damage fodder. ASI UVs will help, Med or High is enough.

I don't understand why people are suggesting bombing if you already have crap ping... you're just a sitting duck (unless you have godly UVs on your armour). Heard of AT Blasters?

Gayeth may suck but he is right. Go bomber.
And if you can get a Polaris as a side weapon since you don't need good net to use it and it's good to keep gunners away from you.

Poni, just because l've been gone a few years doesn't mean l can't make Feller ride you. It was Feller right? l forgot who we used to say would ride you LOL. Also bombing just requires you to have a bomb, you don't need any kind of uv gear, l use Lushii's account to bomb these days and she doesn't have any fancy uv's on her armor, l can still bomb just as effectively, all you need is CTR Med at the very least on a bomb, which is a hell of a lot cheaper than getting gear for striker.

Lovely how a thread about the problems of connecting from countries not supported by Grey Havens devolves into drama, damage hounding and salt instead of actual advice.

Sigh.

Pshh...

I'm Australian, and my best has been 12k damage with terrible gear and barely using pendants.
I don't play for damage, I play to capture points, distract opponents and go for the win. Or just have fun.

You don't need to be a bomber, it takes time to adjust to lag, but so long as you aren't randomly delaying around, you can easily learn to predict movements and swing appropriately. You can gun just as well as anyone, so long as you shoot much further ahead :D

Honestly, just have fun. I would start with using heavy swords such as a gran faust, just so you can learn how to swing at the right time and right place. I find spamming well-placed brandish charges works well too, they have a nasty range and if you land a direct hit, you're often given an instant kill.

Good luck!

My two cents

I'm fairly confident the devs have tweaked how the server handles high ping players. You are still at a big disadvantage, of course, but now your latency will translate to other people's screens as well. So if you have high ping, a low ping person may also see you in a different position than you are actually at. You can use this to your advantage by predicting how they respond to your past movements and anticipating them there.

I recommend practice timing your own hits rather than predicting opponent moves. The glass-cannon metagame makes offensive consistency much more important than defensive consistency. You can perfectly predict an opponent's location and still miss because you failed to take into account how long it takes for your hit to actually reach the server.

As Leekcoco said, you must accept you will never reach the level of better ping people. No matter how much UVs/Trinkets/AT you stack on, there's always someone that completely outclasses you. That being said, you don't have to be a high damage dealer to be a good Lockdown player. A good supporting player can mean the difference between and win and a lose in some games. Being a solid support player makes you a desirable teammate without the drawbacks of people whining about your AT, ASI, etc.

Finally, Lockdown is pretty much natural selection at this point. Most of the players that play have at least decent ping because those that don't lose interest in the game. If you aren't getting any fun out of it, then stop playing! Contrary to what people like to say, your performance in Lockdown is not really reflective of your reflexes/skills as a gamer. Go play chess or basketball instead.
