The forge was many problems which need to be fixed; but I won't talk about the radiant shortage, or the minimum option which both acts as a "throw away crystals here" button and increases the prices of reasonable forges. Instead, I'll just talk about the fact that forging weapons is tedious.
Here's a step-by-step process of forging a weapon after the update:
1. Open the forge, which causes a lag spike
2. Choose the category of equipment to heat
3. Choose the item
4. Choose the med or max option(since nobody uses the min forge)
5. Press "FORGE"
6. Watch the animation of the item getting forged
7. Press "Okay" on a confirmation pop up and get on with the level.
and here's the process before the update:
0. Have the weapon automatically heated.
I know that this system of fire crystals has to exist to slow the pace, but this is a huge slow down, especially in the beginning of a level. Let's make this process a bit faster.
Instead of having to choose the item in the forge, let's use the best way of selecting items in one's arsenal: in the arsenal itself. Selecting "Forge..." would open a smaller forge window in the middle just for the item that was clicked on in the arsenal, getting rid of the other item section on the far right, which in turn reduces the lag.
In this forge window one would see the results of all the chances of each amount of crystals and clicking the amount would immediately forge the weapon, and the animation in the confirmation pop up would be smaller and shorter, like the crafting pop up animation.
So then the process would go like this:
1. Open the arsenal without lag
2. Select "Forge" on the item
3. Click on the amount of fire crystals and forge
4. Close the window
This process would make forging equipment much less tedious.
Can you tell me what exactly about forging equipment up one level is tedious? You press a total of 4 buttons: U to open the forge menu, left click your item, left click the amount of fire crystals used, and finally left click the forge button. If you don't like the animation, press one more button (esc) and the animation cancels immediately. Unless your lag spike from opening the forge menu freezes the game for an insane amount of time, you have no idea how to operate the thing, or you fail the medium level forge multiple times, it should take you no more than 10 seconds to level up an item. There is nothing tedious about it; it takes almost no time at all.
Unless I'm missing something entirely, I don't see why the developers should take the time to re-do the system. At most, the only thing that I can see GH doing in the future is optimizing the menus so that they open instantly without any lag.
