Alright let me start by saying, i'm going to spare you the half an hour long rant i've got for whoever thought this "feature" was a good idea. (Spoiler alert,it isn't.)
Let's just get to the point.I play windowed.I play on 1024x768.There's no way on god's green earth that i would play on fullscreen until Valve decided to fix their god-awful ingame browser, or at least added adblock support, because i use the damn browser, and playing this game on fullscreen and alt-tabbing out, then back in making the game look just horrible (Knight portrait turns all glitchy, huge black bar at the top of the screen exactly the size of the taskbar, hotbar cut off, you know it.It has been an issue since beta, because the game is in Java, and everyone (Including me) accepts it's that way, nothing to be done.).There were literally 0 problems with the old resolution system, even with the added huge number of extra resolutions to pick from.
In comes an update in around early august, adding a tiny little "feature" that just yanks the control away from the user with a huge semitransparent grey bar smack dab in the middle of the screen saying "WINDOW TOO SMALL, PLEASE EXPAND" .I dunno about you, but switching the resolution to higher to expand the window, setting the game resolution to 1024x600 (Which by the way is already lower than 1024x688 the game snaps to when you play on 1024x768 windowed on launch so why would you even NEED to expand....?), switching the resolution back to the usual, only to have this exact problem rinse and repeat the NEXT time i launch the game (Also not being able to manually switch the resolution ingame, since the afformentioned window too small prompt flat out takes away ALL menu control from you!) isn't something that i would call a "good feature", and this will remain a technical issue, no matter how you word it.GH, just fix it, it's as simple as reverting this absolutely stupid idea, or at least ALLOWING the player to use the Video settings in the game even while being prompted to expand!
Your wording is somewhat confusing.
>switching the resolution to higher to expand the window, setting the game resolution to 1024x600 (Which by the way is already lower than 1024x688 the game snaps to when you play on 1024x768 windowed on launch so why would you even NEED to expand....?), switching the resolution back to the usual, only to have this exact problem rinse and repeat the NEXT time i launch the game
You mean to say that you start the game at 1024x768 and are immediately presented with the "Window too small" prompt? If so, then regarding this:
>1024x688 the game snaps to when you play on 1024x768 windowed on launch
I have not been able to replicate this--when I start the game windowed at a nominal resolution from Steam, the game window is created at that size and does not 'snap' to a different one. What OS are you using?--this might be an externally-caused issue.
