A youtuber has just started a new let's play series on spiral knights, I thought I'd share that with you people
Youtuber
I was honestly trying to find a youtuber that is doing a current series on SK but no one posts these days.
I remember that when my brother fist started playing SK 4 years ago he used to watch chawkthree's vidios every now and then and once I started chawkthree was the first channel I looked at to see if there where any updates since my brother left SK and I wish he still consistantlly posted vids but he has covered a lot of the game tbh.
So I was reading the comments, and some of them said that the community of Sk is dead. Some where happy that he was playing the game. And some didn't say much. It looks like he did bring some attention to this game so that nice. All and all, I think this is a good thing. However, some are saying that SK has a worse grind than Trove. Whether this is true or not I'm not sure.
Yea everyone go through the comments and upvote the correct set of comments- the positive "Please play the game" because even if you don't believe that we could definitely use his publicity you know? Here is an example-
"Spiral Knights has a dead community and is garbage" --> Downvote
"Spiral Knights is highly alive the messiah of video games" --> *fanboy/girl mode activate* --> Upvote
Oh! And get him to play with a mouse and keyboard so that he can succeed.
@"His ability to read tutorials..."
IDK I kind of feel like you shouldn't have to read a tutorial in the first place to play/enjoy the game.
See it's one thing if the tutorial tells you stuff you can figure out on your own. The amount of times I've seen people asking about basic game mechanics explained through the tutorial in Haven leads me to believe it'll affect his experience, especially since he has no clue how to level up his gear (which will straight up prevent progress if he manages to get to tier 2 without learning about it).
Additionally, if his plans are to go through and do one mission per episode (whereas two missions might be better later on), then reading over the mission briefings will actually be really nice to fill up a bit of time and set the stage for his viewers.
The game will get pretty samey to watch after the unique levels give way to the randomly generated generic levels. Playing with other people would alleviate that issue, but if he needs to fill the space with his voice then reading the dialogue and mission briefings is a wonderful setup.
That being said, not reading the tutorials will not prevent you from having fun in the game, it'll just cause those moments where you complain about the game and how something isn't clear when it was stated boldly and clearly in a dialogue box that you deemed unimportant.
@Hero-Of-Cheese: They are sorta right in saying that SK has more of a grind than trove but trove is just strait up boring to me (I stopped after only an hour of playing and haven't touched it since, while in SK I played for 8 hours on my first day and I have over 28 days in it). They are similar games but trove has a weird and common art style while the SK art style is so unique and cool.
I don't like his ignorance.
He didn't even read the mail.
To be fair, that mail was probably the starter pack I sent him that has a lengthy note attached that essentially says "read stuff to not be confused", and "party up else this is gonna get stale".
i jest wanted to ask, what do you guys think of the rest of his SK videos?
You sent him a starter pack? XD That's so nice of you!
I gave him a spur and a firotech alchemer. Both had decent UVs on them, hopefully he'll take that into consideration. Not like, outstanding UVs of course. Just like... construct med on the spur and I think... ctr low + slime low + undead low on the other.
Wow, is he a markiplier rip off?
-Dyed hair, how unlike any popular youtuber I know, man, what a wannabee.
-Irritatingly energetic voice?
-Talking trash over the game play (at least he doesn't make up nonsense about American history, I AM LOOKING AT YOUR MARK)
-Asking for likes and subs at the beginning of the vid as supposed to after? That is a bit pathetic, then again the YouTube viewer attention span is shorter than that of a gold fish so I guess it is reasonable.
@Fehzor
I gave him a spur and a firotech alchemer.
I would have given him an owlite shield and a pulsar. Let's not bait him into using some weapon that will burn out his passion for the game now shall we?
I think it's great that the game is getting a bit of exposure although his enthusiasm almost scares me.
It's also kinda funny how people are giving him presents.
But his attitude toward cut scenes is very irritating ("Shut up! Shut up!") while also being a sign that nobody actually reads them.
@Midnight-Dj
Let's not bait him into using some weapon that will burn out his passion for the game
On the contrary, winmillion is an effective weapon that doesn't require 5* fire crystals. I'd say that it's a great weapon for beginning knights- it effectively costs about 1/10th as much as every other weapon in the game, and provides far more than just 1/10th the reward simply by not having a 5*. As for its low damage, well, that's why he has guns.. which he's already found to be highly effective.
There'll be a dialogue part where an NPC says ten sentences full of garbage, one of which will say the useful thing of: "Repeat the word 'Birdocopter' to me."
Then when the NPC is like: "What word did I tell you to repeat?" He just be mad at the game for... Something. And then quit forever and never play SK again.
I'm just kidding.
On the contrary, winmillion is an effective weapon that doesn't require 5* fire crystals.
I don't know about that, although I don't own a winmillion, I still reckon even an unheated combuster can beat it out in terms of damage. And its charge is going to be crucial in T3, if this Markiplier rip off (seriously, he trying so hard to be a mix of Markiplier and Jackspeticeye) wants to ever beat FSC he is going to need a better sword than Winmillion. I don't see how he can solo vanaduke without people actually helping him out.
When I started playing this game I thought cutter and jelly set were going to carry me to the end game (how could I have been more wrong?), I will now preach this to him so he may never suffer the same fate as I.
Idk winmillion still puts in work for me and I have all the combusters there is.
So what I mean is that even though those items are easy to get I don't think that he should be given some decent items for free. I may be contradicting myself because I did give him 10k and a static edge (which I thought wouldn't be much considering he doesn't know what to use crowns for) but in my opinion a spur is just inside the lines in terms of decent but not really good gear to give him. Now the firotech on the other hand is a very decent weapon and I think that is just going over the line. The starter pack is aligned with what I was thinking he should be given, not to good of stuff but not that bad for where he is at in the missions.
Now don't get me wrong I think it was very nice of you guys to give him those items I just think you gave him slightly to good of items for where he is at in the game.
He indeed does need to read the story instead of making dumb conversations with the characters and just telling them to shut up, but I don't know how easy it will be to get that into his head as he does that a lot in his other series.
@Midnight-Dj: I am sure that by the time he gets to JK he will get slammed and realize he needs to be using his shield and do the missions with other people. It is also not that hard to do vana with the winmillion and it is a lot of fun.
I personally love his series of SK. It is so nice to see someone go through the missions when they have no idea what they are doing. When I started I knew a ton from when my brother played so watching someone who knows nothing is such a treat :)
You all threw gear at him, I tried to give him stuff that would help him on his way, not make him skip the important learning grounds in the game.
I gave him:
+ 15 5* materials - for sprite food
+ either 1,500 or 2,500 crowns. I forget which
+ 25 energy, for opening gates/powering mecha knights
None of that will change his starter experience but it'll enhance it.
I will say that spur line is a dead end line. It's a flashier calibur with cutter damage and only goes to 4*. It's a "skilled user" weapon, not something a player should get used to especially when elite orbs are so hard to come across.
Only thing that does bother me is that every episode is a floor, not a mission. That'll get stale really fast once the tutorial levels end and we get the normal randomly generating levels. But this is his series and when he isn't making slurping noises I appreciate his enthusiasm.
He also says, in the description of most videos, his channel is aimed at a younger audience. As such, it won't appeal to most people critical of youtube channels, but hey, it's fun to watch someone's first steps regardless of who they are. :)
He finally read the mail. Y'all spoiled him.
It is a coincidence that this popped up on the forums. For the people who know me well enough, I have been less active on SK compared to before because of Trove. To see a channel that covers two of the games I have most experience in is great I suppose. If any new players need help on either games, I will be glad to help. My IGN for spiralknights would be the same as my forum's. Max prestige and considered "wealthy". My IGN for Trove would be "Acherons". Power Rank is 16k PR. I'm reaching endgame for Trove but am sadly still nowhere as rich there compared to my sum in SK. Anyways, my aim is to help somebody out. I suppose I should put this post in the new player section as well.
Good luck.
IGN SK: Abcdz
IGN Trove: Acherons
I am really mad at the person that gave him the Obsidion carbine and the skolver coat today. Like why would you want to give him such good gear without having to make him work for it. I think that is going to ruin his experience a ton.
Now that, is ridiculous.
Now he'll never learn the hard way about effort in this game.
Now he only has to go through 1/2 of the pain that the rest of us had to go through to get to full 5*
I know he is a youtuber and probably doesn't want to grind to much but he should really say for the people not to give him that good of gear. I don't care if the person was quitting, that was just dumb to give him those items
Additionally, the guy won't even be able to use this gear for a while.
On the bright side he won't be stuck on the 5* hall of heroes as long... However he will be stuck on the 4* one.
Everyone's first set of gear is so important and a huge milestone to accomplish. It's sorta saddening to see that being taken from him. At least he won't have to grind for eternals (granted, eternals are honestly the easiest orb to grind for).
So I sent him an "encyclopedia" and I can't wait to see his face if he shows it on a video. I think it might even be longer then the one fangel sent to him on his first mail opening video.
I really hope he starts listening to us because although it would be funny I don't want ot see him get slapped about (which will happen if he continues to ignore us).
I have found another Youtuber with SK content who i consider to be much more entertaining and occasionally funny, without the cringy jokes, constant yelling and pandering to children because of his audience. This guy takes SK seriously and cares about the game and community, he reads the lore and dialogue and actually does his research and knows what hes doing, plus he's pretty good. I think he definitely deserves support, so i ask you, give one of his videos a chance and decide for yourself whether you enjoy his content, and subscribe if you do, i'm sure it would help him.
I think everyone who does SK videos deserves support so I will derfinatly check him out.
As much as it does get annoying that Scythe makes dumb conversations with the characters and tells them to shut up he isn't that bad of a youtuber. There are a ton of kids that watch youtube and it is really hard ot find a nice youtuber that doesn't swear or even that aims his videos for kids. So I really think that Scythe is doing a good thing with making a kid friendly gaming channel because youtube needs more of them. Kid friendly channels are also decently fun to watch. As far as Scythe not being that good or not knowing what do do I really enjoy it because I didn't get to have the complete noob experience. I almost wish that I didn't watch my brother when he started, but since I did it is nice to see SK from a new players prespective (even if he is getting handouts for days).
Thank you so much for the link. I will check him out right away :)
Yeah i was pretty harsh on Scythe, he can be entertaining at times, i guess he's just not my type of content creator. If someone enjoys his content i don't want to take that away from them and i hope they continue watching him. I can appreciate the kid friendly aspect of his content, I guess i was trying to make the other Youtuber more appealing so people will check him out.
And yeah i saw that Skolver gear he got, i don't even think he's aware what it is haha, but it's not like he asked for it.
Yeah that was dumb to give it to him. Even if it is a decent armor at least they didn't give him a kat hood or something like that. I hope people stop giving him gear and just stick to materials (I did send him a toxic bomb along with the message I sent him but I thought it would be hilarious because of my name).
Glad to see someone is bringing a bit of attention to the game. Kind of a shame he doesn't read over any of the lore stuff - it's pretty great for understanding where you're at.
I will say his energy is nice. His ability to read tutorials... Less nice. Will be fun to see how he works forwards in the game. Thanks for sharing!
