Now how do I say this, Grey havens and Three rings both have had a lot on their plate when developing Spiral Knights.
I feel as though the community can take a stand and petition a community created update.
Although we probably won't be expected to complete everything that will be worked on, I do say that we can try to help as much as we can.
That is of course until Gray Havens decides we can help out too!
Well of course we won't be doing the main story line, missions, etc. But I just think that we can have a separate mission category for COMMUNITY projects.
You have rank, Prestige, DLC, and Arcade.
Although there's numerous ways to do this. My best say is add a house in haven were you can go inside and select a community made level set or whatever the case. (probably the best way to do it)

That's besides the point though, I still feel that as long as we are a community together, we can band together to make Haven a better place!
Or at least make the game better.

Now when I say, we make assets for Gray Havens to implement, I'm talking 3d Models... Concept art, Music, Special Effects, new costumes and accessories, etc.
So what I suggest the community does is design assets for Gray havens to use for future updates.
Don't get me wrong, The devs probably won't agree to this as though they have their own reasons. But the game just seems to lack the aspect of more when your end game.

We are all greedy here for more content. Although we aren't savages. I'm confident that the day will come that we can make our own content for Spiral Knights.

This has been RavenTail and is now signin' off. ~Peace.

PS : I might discuss this over discord in a live stream!

I am all for your idea if the devs say that they are willing to take into consideration what you guys submit. If they don't say a thing then I would drop it because most likely they won't be interested. I would go ask if you could post some 3D models for them to look at in the state of haven thread before moving on with this idea since you won't know if they are looking at them unless you get their word for it.

Could we perhaps start a bit smaller? I just want to design a few levels to add to the game. Not like, a huge new level, new models, new plot, no no, just like... a new jelly farm level or so, with the existing enemies and things. Or perhaps a few new farming areas for rads, some alternate levels for FSC, stuff like that that would make farming in Spiral Knights more pleasurable. It's what I think SK needs most and it wouldn't interfere with whatever Grey Havens is doing one bit.

yeah

We can create all the assets we want, but it's more of an artistic endeavor than an "add this to the game" sort of thing.

I would be all for a level editor of some sort. Of any sort. An arcade gate dedicated to community levels would be awesome and keep new levels (and old ones!) rotating around a bit. I'll copy and paste a tidbit I wrote recently on the spiral knights subreddit that carries over a bit to this conversation:

"There's several ways to make a level editor.

There are:

  • Depth editors
  • Room editors
  • Tile editors

Depth editors would be re-arranging the clockworks in an order that we like. It would be like making a custom mission - put levels together, and maybe have a single ensured scenario room. This would be easiest to implement and balance.

Room editors are editing rooms in level generation, essentially making custom scenario rooms that can be common. All blocks are removed and players can place them as needed. This would be middle line to make and balance - but would be in generation with other levels so it would be pretty neat.

Tile editors are editing entire rooms and layouts created from scratch. Basically, building levels from the ground up. This would be hardest to do and balance."

I'm thinking we'd just add the new levels to existing gates. We'd make a level (those of us that care), we'd submit it, the GMs etc. would approve (or not..) and it'd get added in at the appropriate place.

We can already create tiles to retool areas manually, manipulate models, and suggest combinations of depths. What we can't do is design levels and convince Grey Havens to accept our work.

mhmm

The thoughts I have are to allow limited customization at the start so it can more easily weed out players who don't want to make levels. If this is all on the main client we'll need to have checks and balances to ensure we don't have treasure vault 2 - electric boogaloo, or a level that has a bunch of treasure boxes at the start for farming but is otherwise a really good level.

Sometimes you need treasure vaults to keep people playing. But seriously though, do this on the test server and paywall it. That will block the trolls.

oh, right

Additionally, with a paywall on the testing server, you don't have to worry about loot drops (or can balance them) since all loot gained on that server won't matter too much anyways.

I'd totally pay to make levels lol. I don't know how much but I'd definitely pay.
