What's you guys opinion on the cutter and its upper level variants? Is it any good, worth getting upgrades or should I start working on another weapon. I already have the 3 star version (striker I believe) and I was thinking of working on the Vile Striker next. It seems like a solid weapon for High DPS, especially with the poison chance per hit.
Thoughts on the cutter.
Hmmm ok, so what weapon would you suggest for best overall damage output/survivability ?
Swords with good knockback will do that for you. Leviathan Blade (from Calibur) and either Divine Avenger or Faust (both from Sealed Sword). You can hit hard enough to kill things, and shove them away to prevent retaliation. In particular: the Leviathan doesn't shove on normal hits, but launches enemies across the room with its charged attack. Cornered or immobile enemies can suffer up to three hits rather than the "usual" single hit the damage was designed for, so you can smash bosses for impressive damage with it.
The cutter line is good if you are the "I'm not going to do alot of damage in one hit" type of player. Personally I like my Vile Striker better then any other sword I have (I have 6 swords lvl 3 & 4).
The main thing is you have to be willing to learn its play style. You attack 4 times, which is actually something like 6 hits cause of the "double attack", and hit shield...wait for mob attack and do it again. Or if you are going against slower moving targets, you get behind them and slash and move with them to keep them rotating without them being able to look at you.
Plus the Poison aspect of it helps out the party so they take less damage, and almost everyone loves them for Royal Jelly runs.
Just think of the Cutter line as weapons used for assasins & thiefs...and the faster you can make it...the faster you will kill
The charged attack cannot be interrupted by anything though. If you sneak up perfectly and try to assassinate a gun puppy with it... it'll turn all the way around and blast you in the face before you finish your mad sword frenzy. And you need to beware that you don't step right into a spike bed or other hazard during its follow-through.
Yes, it is true the charge attack definately has more then something to be desired. Granted against most fire-puppies it works good or if you time your attack just right to start just AFTER it has just finished a barrage you can kill it before it gets another blast off. Though if you are really up for some "fun" then you get a cutter series and find a way to get IAS MAX, and you wont be able to hit the buttons fast enough, but you can shield on a dime.

I've actually got a very high attack speed Vile Striker, and it's not quiet that fast, but yes basically 0 shield delay. Maybe I'll take a screen of it. I know one of these sold for over 100k yesterday, I picked mine up for 4k.
Despite all you peoples negative thoughts, i think that cutter is a pretty good weapon. Even though it doesn't do a lot of damage, the speed definitely makes up for it. I dont use the charge attack much anyways because im too lazy to charge it and plus im trying to level up my calibur right now. I was going to get the wild hunting blade(or at least try to), but now im having second thoughts on if the dread venom stricker or the wild hunting blade is better.
Go with the dread venom striker. I made a hunting blade with uv: damage to beast high for a total damage bonus of maximum to beasts in anticipation of Snarbolax, and it's extremely disappointing. Any of the rapier style weapons will outclass a wild hunting blade's damage to beasts, it also has a hard time hitting with the secondary swing, and the charge attacks of the rapiers are far better.
It's not a sword worth dumping 5* cost into unless you're a sword freak that wants everything. Go with Leviathan for general purpose, Divine Aavenger/Combuster/Glacius for elemental damage, Gran Faust/Acheron for shadow damage , or a Final Flourish or Barbarous Thorn for piercing. Anything else is a waste of money.
What Zealous said. Cutters are pretty bad, and even as a Dread Venom Striker they are primarily a support sword for inflicting poison on mobs. DPS on the cutter line is comparable only if you land all the hits, which is both hard to do and dangerous because there is minimal knockback. To top it off, the charge attack is also bad because it holds you in place and has no real knock-back either.
I know I love partying with somebody who knows how to use a cutter. I haven't used one myself, but partying with one is great. The minimal knockback means they won't bash mobs away from me while we're ganging up on them.
Personally, I'm quite fond of my Dread Venom Striker. It *does* require a radically different set of tactics than, say, the Calibur line (which could be nearly as effective with nothing but the charge attack). People who know how to use the heavier swords will indeed find the cutter line a lot harder to work with. On the other hand, if you know what you're doing, it can be quite potent - especially if you solo. The amount of damage it puts out in a short period of time is quite high. Sure you can't interrupt with knockback, but you can interrupt by killing them just fine. The poison is also handy when dealing with those annoying little heal-critters. Slash/slash/shield can be pretty effective for those monsters you can't take out in a single combo, and once you learn to use ti, the fact that your attacks move you forward can be handy as a way to dodge.
Worth noting that it's *not* as defensive a blade as, say, the Calibur line or anything in the Sealed Swords - which means that having an overpowered weapon (5* in tier 2) and/or damage buffs (from the Snarbolax shield, the wolver line of armor, and/or a decent UV) means more. I don't know that I'd take it into tier 3 as a primary weapon, but given that right now I'm just running JK over and over and over again *anyway* it's really quite nice.
I've got a friend who dominates using his Vile Striker. He essentially punishes enemy attacks, so he does well against all Lumbers. He's also adept at shield canceling, so his defense with the Vile Striker isn't bad at all.
Rangerwill, it's worth putting up with a necro, for the tremendous insights into the game offered by post #14.
If we're gonna keep it alive via our pointless post them move this to the Graveyard or at least Arsenal forum
The poison chance is very low, and you actually are more exposed to counterattack than you are with a 3-swing or even 2-swing sword.
The Vile Striker is great for fighting the Royal Jelly... but dangerous for anything else.
