Hey, guys! So recently I've been having a difficult time laying out my controls scheme (keyboard and mouse) to both achieve comfortable ease of use and the usage of weapons binded to keys for faster weapon switching and less mishaps for me to level up my game! I also have a few restrictions and rules as follows: And also, here's what my keyboard and mouse looks like: http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/mac/imac2011/_DSC6134.jpg

1. I can only use mouse to aim, and nothing else. ( I got a wireless mouse and I'm afraid if I use it for any other functions, the mouse batteries will whittle down quickly to cero! ( That's "zero" in Spanish ). I might get rechargeable batteries when I get the opportunity, but nevertheless clicking the mouse over and over will probably dwindle it faster than keyboard batteries ( plus I heard assigning functions to mouse will make the function come out slower than on keyboard ).
2. I preferably want to use my pointer finger as the "action" key. I tried binding "action" to where my pinky finger would be responsible for, and after an hour and a half, I was pretty sure it needed to be amputated, ( not really, you know what I mean. ).
3. I want this control scheme to be all purpose, for both LD and PvE. So this includes, pickup slot keys and sprite skills keys.
4. I prefer left hand on keyboard and right hand on mouse as that's what I've grown up with.
5. No new material tech being brought into this, only the keyboard and mouse as shown above.

Alright so those are the rules and restrictions I can think of, whoever suggests the control scheme that achieves both goals as stated above for me will receive:

Two Lockboxes
A Heat Amplifier that lasts for 30 days.
And a choice between costumes/accessories or 15k cr.

Hello

WASD to move

3,4,5,6 for the pickup consumables

1 and 2 for previous weapon and next weapon

e-first sprite skill
q-second sprite skill
r-last sprite skill

space bar-action key (i would personally say it is better this way, but if you really want to use pointer finger, then f. though that may cause some issues with movement)

Does it let you map the bottom, left most button, which i assume is FN? If yes and you can press it quite easily with the "paw pad" right below your pinky finger, then use FN as shield button and press it like that. If not, then C or V (whichever you find more comfortable pressing with your index or thumb)

Left shift and Tab are free to be mapped as dash and shield bash ( i will let you decide which to which)

Let me know if i've missed any button or something.

hmm

Mouse to aim but not attack may be a bit awkward. Luckily with Spiral Knights you can set multiple keys to the same command! For example, left mouse button AND the Z key are attack for me. WASD and arrows keys are both movement for me. Basically, I can play with one hand if I'm grabbing a drink or moving my phone around with the other, even if I'm crippled a bit in doing so.

I used to play on a mac and let me tell you, a good mouse will do so much for your life, like my gosh. Here's how I used to roll:

WASD to move
R to shield
Click to attack/action
Q and E as previous and next weapon
Space as next weapon
1 - 4 as consumables
Shift - toggles auto target

I moved on over to a different computer with windows on it before most new changes came out. A few things to keep in mind:
If you're using a mouse to aim but not anything else, you're severely limiting what your right hand can bring to the table and put much more stress on your left hand to play the game. While precision on the mouse would be good, you may consider the arrow keys as your aiming method.

Here's a theoretical keyboard-only setup:

WASD to move
Arrow keys to look around
Right ALT to toggle strafe
/ and F to attack
Right shift and left shift to shield
1, 2, 3, 4 for consumables
Q for previous weapon
E for next weapon
Space as MODIFIER key
Modifier + 1, 2, 3 for sprite abilities
R for dash
Left control for shield bash

Now, this is all theoretical, and would likely take some getting used to. The fact that your right hand is on the right side of the keyboard means that you'll get some more responsibility with your right hand, as trying to move and attack with the same hand can get clunky. Worst case scenario would be to purchase a USB mouse (preferably with several buttons) then plug it into your computer so you can actually click to attack, defend, dash, shield bash, etc.

Ok, let's just talk about mice for a moment.

Your mouse detects movement by checking what's beneath the mouse, comparing that to what it was a moment ago and figuring out where its moved and by how much. This is happening several hundred, if not thousand times per second.

and you click the mouse button, which has one value that doesnt need to be calculated, maybe 3 times a second while attacking with long breaks in between.

Clicking your mouse isn't going to drain the battery enough for it to be ecen slightly noticeable.
Also, if both your mouse and keyboard are wireless, there's no reason your mouse button would act any slower.

As for controls, I personally use:
WASD: movement
B: bound to "walk forward" so I can walk in curves if I want to

Mouse aim
Mouse1 attack
Mouse2 shield

E: Weapon 1
Q: Weapon 2
Tab: Weapon 3
C: Sprite skill 1
X: Sprite skill 2
Z: Sprite skill 3
V: dash(I don't like spacebar)

Shift+Mouse2: Shield bash
Ctrl: Used to be toggle autotarget

1/2/3/4 for vials

Honestly bud, you won't get a comfy control scheme by not using your mouse. if you're so worried about battery life pick up a cheap wired mouse for like £5 or less to play SK with.
