This is a guide I've designed for aspiring Recons in Lockdown. I have a terrible computer so I cannot record, so therefore I am forced to post semi-privately on Imgur.

I would appreciate feedback on how to better word tactics, what is needed to supplement this guide, and critique on my tactics. I am by far not the best Recon, but I can insist that I am experienced.

In regards about recon class isn’t as strong as we think they are. I feel as though they are a hybrid between Striker and Guard.

My definition of a Recon has to be both stealth but also seen. The reason to this has to be my style or approach of strategic play and ability to react and predict with basic core skills that goes to all classes. You need to not only know how to predict but play as if you are a guardian but not as tank and a striker without boost. Cloak is simply a substitute for striker boost in a sense where you only need it to throw a player off balance but not to the point where they run off because they have no time for you.

Cloaking can be used as a taunt mechanism to bait players. If you know you’re better or can take or do something about a situation. Let them come to you, and it’s very well easy to predict knowing the mentality of how it’s always been “oooh look a recon, easy kill it’s not even cloaking” well jokes on you, I can play well as a guardian and get away fast enough as a striker… The problem is that there aren’t enough recons around to demonstrate that.

I strictly avoid hiding in corners or behind something. You’ll miss heaps of opportunities for a real surprise attack. It’s not wise either especially if you have a good player that knows how a specific recon player plays. It’s quite easy to gun a corner or wall and an invisible wall trap. So it’s best to try to grab open space far enough so you can adjust to move to the flow of direction of a target you want to attempt to assassinate.

Recon death marks are kind of overrated which can also get you killed… If you have an Acheron, you can snipe just about anyone in less 3 seconds if you are good enough. ASI and Ultra dmg is huge factor though… And yes it can dismantle a full hp guardian in less than three seconds and get a free defend without deathmark.

One of the minor issue I see with recon’s they tend to use sealed swords more than basic brandish attacks for some reason… Brandish is a stealth weapon, sealed swords suits guardian more. They both work fine but brandish has faster execution. The reason why I think 1-2 combo is garbage for recons is that it only works when it actually kills something. Usually you’re not able to kill someone with a ss 1-2 instead of a brandish 1-1-1 or 1-2-1 or a 12-3 this is using a BK set. The problem with the 1-2 is that you leave yourself vulnerable since that last swing has a forever going on animation.

Recon class is definitely a stronger class than striker and guardian if you know how to play all characters. It’s just the matter of having the patience from getting to point A and point B. I know this because I can play all three, though I still have trouble as guardian as I have no idea how to deal with mob stunlocking once my shield is gone… I am not a combo button masher type of guy lol. It takes more skill to be an aggressive recon than to be a typical striker.

Here’s a recon video I posted while back. Not my usual (A) game though I can’t remember when was the last time I tried playing my best lol.

Hi Rhons, Abelisk here - long

Hi Rhons, Abelisk here - long time!

Great post. It's refreshing to see something like this. I used to play Recon with one goal: to stall enemies and support allies through the use of Recon deathmarking.

After Lockdown became too laggy for me to play normally, I just gave up. I haven't tried playing on my new PC though, and found a new game to play.

But I'm gonna get back on and try myself as a Recon swordie again. I've been using Recon dual alchemers, but that isn't exactly the type of reconnaissance work - more of taking advantage of its boost for gunning.

As someone who played Recon...

I definitely agree with everything here, it's all good stuff. Although I'm mainly a gunner with double alchs as a recon, many of the rules still apply. I would elaborate on how you would approach an enemy capping without giving them the yellow warning sign that you are nearby. If they suddenly see that yellow sign, they know you're there and will likely run around spamming flourish, giving you a hard time getting a bead on em. Otherwise good stuff. I don't play as recon as often as my new controls make my dual switching a little weird to do. Now I'm trying to learn striker ( without trinks, yes, I'm daring, I know . ). But keep it up!

Side note.

You can still use the stealth to pick off enemies and stall them @ Abelisk with alchs. I've done it before albeit without trinks so it's a little hard for me to stay alive. But it's definitely possible to stall enemies for a really long time, kiting them with alchemers and using the recon stealth as a way to piss em off.

Gun/Bomb recon

For the gunner use the alchimer line for dynamic shots and status (or be a scumbaggish pulsar)

Bomber is difficult but the best is shock due to its ability to stop players and dealing damage
