I was thinking a bit and I have a bunch of random suggestions.
1: Rebalance Angel Isles missions.
It's clear that the Angel Isles were designed for a different game. In Tier 1 they're OK, since that's what they were meant to be like (they were from the Skies Under Cradle mission), but if you get them in the Arcade in Tier 2 or 3, they're complete chaos.
Don't get me wrong: I like the levels, the music's amazing, but some sections are just impossible.

2: Mini Mist Tanks.
This is just a little way to encourage small energy spending: you have, say, 10 energy per day, and the only thing you can use it on are energy gates and mecha knights/auto turrets. Right now it's very unlikely you'll make a profit by opening a gate, and I think this would be a good retro-fix.

3: I don't have any other suggestions...

er

Angel Isles? Do you mean the Aurora Isles?

Aurora Isles aren't too bad where they stand. They were from an earlier part of the game's development, however I think they scale pretty well. They just have a lot more walking to them than other levels, so I'd really enjoy more monster spawns or gates when backtracking to make it more interesting/faster.

Mist tanks would be pretty neat. The number should be small and still take the same amount of time as before to recharge (ie, 22 hours for a full tank). There's lots of stuff that we don't use energy on because it's a premium resource, so having a tiny amount of it for free allows us to open gates all we like without feeling bad about opening them.
I think you should get no more than 15 energy, and no less than 10 in these tanks.

right

Sorry, I forgot the name of the Aurora Isles. I think I confused it with Sonic since SK was owned by SEGA. Sorry!
I'm saying some places have too MANY enemies. For example, in one of the levels (I forget which) there's an energy gate with a bunch of Gun Puppies behind them. In Tier 1 it's ok since they only shoot one shot, but in tier 2 they shoot three, which is much harder, and don't even get me started on tier 3.
*shudder*

Yeah, I'm thinking about 10 in a mist tank. Of course, you can still use crystal energy on gates and such, but you can't use mist for buying things, since from what I remember lore-wise mist is sort of stored within the knight.

eh

That room is an optional room. Energy gates often bar entry to either loot or tough areas, and honestly I don't see how an optional route being made easier would be beneficial.
The game already suffers from a lack of easily accessible difficult content. Removing the optional difficult parts of levels seems like it'd hurt more than help.

Also, any sort of energy should be usable anywhere. You simply can't trade mist energy.
Mist would act as a very tiny discount, and the only item you could outright purchase would be 1* orbs. If anything, encouraging players early on to craft an assortment of gear would be good.

But.. but...

I'm saying that the room's fine in Tier 1, but in Tier 2 and above it's practically impossible, and the reward is too small.
I don't know how to fix it, maybe with slightly less turrets, but I'm saying that it's not good above Tier 1.

Aurora isles themselves are fine. One specific "danger room" being optional and dangerous seems like exactly the right way to do things.

Only bad part about that room is easily the silkwings, but they help put the "danger" in "danger room". If they weren't dangerous then it'd be kinda pointless to lock them off.
