I know this is an old topic... But I haven't seen any mention of it.

A lot of Australians persevered against horrid lag around 2012 to play this game, because it's good.

Things have changed in australia since then, despite govt interference over the last 3 years, our internet has improved.

I've gone from adsl over 30 year old rotting copper lines with a lot of congestion on my exchange to a fiber connection, as have many as of late.

But despite this, as far as I can see, it's still USA or Europe, and I think there was one of those Chinese offshoots that their laws force western companies to use if they want to do business over there... I know League of Legends did that at one point, called it "Garena"...

May we have oceanic servers, Please?

You could just run it out of a cheap host like Exigent in melbourne and that would easily increase the quality of gameplay and make it truly good for australians. It'd actually be pretty affordable these days.

As for advertising, social media, memes and focusing on the teamwork aspect of the game is where I'd start, fortunately all those things are very cheap to do...

Oceania Servers

To quote Cronus from the State of Haven Discussion thread:

"Q: Australian / Asia Servers.

A: While that's possible at some point in the future, we do not have any immediate plans to add more server locations."

So unfortunately not now, at least.

(I don't mean to sound rude or anything, excuse me if I come across that way. Just don't know if you've seen that or not. If you have, feel free to ignore this comment and go about your day.)

And that is why I included

And that is why I included more than just a blank "please?" there's more to discuss than just "yes" or "no".

And no, I didnt, thanks.

Like how things have changed since then and the situation is DEFINITELY worth reassessing from a business POV.

I'm a huge nerd who makes multi faceted arguments.

As an addendum, I think a lot of Australian players learned or figured out that Sega had tied three ring's hands as to servers, and consequently, feeling ignored and slightly peeved that they'd even spent money on things like energy and spent hours and hours grinding to level despite the lag, (not to mention the few people on the forums that called them entitled or similar at the time, just a few, but that's all it takes when thousands can read a thread), they gave up and just... left.

I don't mean to cause drama, this isn't meant to be critical, it's just a post mortem of the situation, this is literally what happened from my POV.

If the answer is ultimately no, that's fine also, and I can think of perfectly valid reasons why this would be so, like the fact that "that market is dead, why bother trying to revive it like a zombie skeleton...", but something should be learned from this... "situation", to call it lightly... although "mistake" would be more accurate.

The counter argument is that the australian market is not dead, it's sleeping, people still have their accounts and can just download and reinstall from steam just like that, especially now that so many people have fiber connections, god americans have had it good, I just got 30/2, and I can bump it to 100/40 for $20 more a month... hmmm...

The other factor to consider is that my country is not doing so great with employment for youth lately, a lot of people are depressed and turning to games as an escape from their dull, boring, low paid and poorly conditioned jobs whilst not working them. Giving away free digital items that have been created in virtually infinite quantities compared to the finite, measurable investment required to make the assets that create them is a great way to get people to reactivate their accounts. (I in no way mean to demean the efforts that go into creating items, I am speaking mostly in academic terms for the purpose of analysing this situation based on what little information I have been able to put together)

I hope people can see the positives in what I am saying and not just get mad or ban happy, I loved spiral knights so much and so did my friends who played with me, nobody plays it here in australia any more, I got a lot of 5 star gear and was working on different sets of items to go deeper, but the lag made it impossible beyond a certain depth (this is an alt for forum posting, my main is tied to my steam account, I like my privacy), it's sad because this game is actually very well made and was a lot of fun, it has and had serious potential.

yes, many times

Yes, this has been discussed many times, including in the current State of Haven thread that Ikalula mentioned.

Is your plan for the Australian servers to simulate the same game world as the North American and European servers? Then Australia-only parties will improve, but inter-continental parties will have the same lag issues as they do now. Or will the Australian servers simulate a separate world, like the old east Asian servers did? Then you'll have a world with very few inhabitants.

...so many people have fiber connections, god americans have had it good...

You're over-estimating the USA Internet access market. For example, I play SK from the USA over ADSL. Many Americans don't have any fast ("broadband") access, or have only one company to choose from, typically with not-very-fast rates. And those monopolies regularly prevent competition from entering the market. That said, at least we're close to SK's North American servers.

I can agree with Bopp here. I'm an American, living in the midwest, and I actually have pretty slow internet in comparison to a lot of people. I live very rurally, about 40 miles from the nearest actual town. Our two only options are a co-op run by one guy or satellite, the latter of which is horribly oversold and unusable in the evenings. Let's just say we use the co-op, which has a variety of problems and certainly is far from the fastest connection in the world. I frequently have connection problems that don't allow me to do any levels without risking running into a wall and becoming a punching bag while I DC.

As Bopp did say, the one blessing we do have is close proximity to the NA servers for SK. That's about it for some of us though.
